We have seen this place in the "you gotta eat here" book. We have been to quite a few of the restaurant in the book and were usually amazed. That has not been the case that time. Although it was very good, we somehow expected some more magic and WOWs! plus, the ribs were not cooked enough which is something hard to forgive for such a place! has it lost it's spirit since the show or we just fell on a bad day?!? we'll never know!
Boneheads is a favorite spot for us when visiting Halifax. Unfortunately our first time back since covid was a bit disappointing. ABTs were off the menu, brisket was fairly dry (but still tasty), and no dine in option (we were directed to place an online order while standing at the till). Hopefully this is a temporary setback because every previous visit was 5 stars.
The BBQ sauce that came on the side was nice and tangy. The sides were bigger than we expected. The pulled pork and brisket weren’t very flavourful on their own (before adding the BBQ sauce)but were tender and moist. Had the 1/2 ribs, good portion,fall of the bone. Really good hand cut fries and potato salad . Prices were reasonable. 17.99 for pulled pork plate with two sides and cornbread. 26.50 for the half ribs and choice of one meat,two sides and cornbread. It’s takeout only for now.
Amazing BBQ!!!!! This place just made me a rib fan - so tender, lots of meat and just incredible flavour!! The smoked wings are flavorful, tender and just plain delicious! The pulled pork is great even without added sauce and the brisket is tender and very lean. The smoked sausage is great. The baked beans are a unique BBQ flavour and with a bit of heat. Mac and cheese is good and cheesy and my husband loved the potato salad. The cornbread was a bit dry for my preference but had a nice flavor. My husband and I shared the pit sampler and an order of the smoked wings and we have definitely have enough food for at least 2 large meals for each of us! There was more than enough sauces to sample with everything and all of them were great. This will definitely be on our list of places to eat whenever we are in Halifax!
The side dishes were low quality, however the meats are good
Pretty good pulled pork sandwich. A little plain. Could use some coleslaw. The barbecue sauce is tasty. The French fries are very salty. Too salty. Delivery was slow.
Customer service was great and the people working here were very nice. The food however is where it goes downhill. The brisket was very dry and the chicken didn’t look like it was cooked properly as it was very pink on the inside. The sides were okay, Mac and cheese was pretty good but everything else like the beans or poutine were eh. The wings looked great but were VERY very dry and almost tasteless. The service was great along with the appearance of the store, but the food just wasn’t for me or my friends.
Delicious BBQ!If you order the beef brisket, they automatically give you the mustard bbq sauce. If that's not your thing, just remember to ask them for Smokehouse Sweet or Kickin' Red.
Small place offering great meats. The ribs were phenomenal, but all of the sides were sort of underwhelming. Nothing memorable about the Mac and cheese or corn bread, though the slaw was nice. The poutine is a must try, and though the wings were heavily suggested they were not for me. They have an intense smoked flavour (which makes sense) with lots of seasoning, but for me personally it packed too much flavour into a small piece of chicken.People who love meat should definitely come here.
Got the 1/2 brisket with fries and BBQ beans. Brisket was flavourless and dry as bone. Fries were over cooked and saltless. Cornbread tasted good but again very dry. BBQ beans were ok. Disappointed.
