Without a doubt, the best fish and chips ever !!!! The haddock tips were out of this world also !!!!
The fries were kinda meh, but the fish was quite good.Their outdoor seating area was a drastic improvement since the last time I went there. Will go back next time I’m in town ?
I visited here with my husband and 4-year-old. My husband and I shared the seafood platter with scallops, haddock tips & shrimp. Everything was delicious. My daughter had the haddock tips kid's meal and loved it. You could easily order the kid's meal and be plenty full! We sat at the restaurant on a picnic table outside. The food was awesome and really reasonably priced. I recommend.
We used to eat here back in the day and it was the best . We ate here yesterday and was very disappointed. This place is going down hill. The fish wasn't fresh it was hard and dry.. Seafood platter was small and the seafood was tasteless. Not sure what happened to this place but you just lost two customers. Doesn't really deserve any stars. Don't mean to be negative just being truthful. Definitely not worth the money we paid.
I just got a fish and chips from John’s lunch. It’s not even edible. It’s going right in the compost. What a waste and shame. It was cooked in dirty oil obvious by the colour of the fries and fish and it tastes like dirty oil. Also the fish is clearly ot fresh as it hard as a rock. Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. There is way better fish and chips a block away. What a way to squander a good reputation… which i’m not sure how it has based on what i was just served.
Been five years since my first visit and no disappointments this visit. My wife and I had the Sea Food Platter and it was a beauty to dive into! So fresh! Staff were terrific and called out the walk up window to make sure all was good with our order! I even got a Johns Lunch mug to take back to Ontario with me!! Look forward to another visit someday!
Fish and chips delicious
We shared a two piece fish and chips meal and it was very tasty. Really good fish.
On a visit to Halifax, friends informed me that this place had been reviewed as having the best fish and chips in the Maritimes, possibly in all of Canada. I simply had to go and try it - and it was quite good. I had the fish with the chips turned into poutine, and a side of more or less average cole slaw. While this was excellent, I'd still have to give the edge on "best fish and chips I've ever had" to The Caves Restaurant in St. Martin's, NB, which remains undefeated. I came alone, but had a nice conversation with someone with whom I shared one of the few outside tables. Important note: parking for the restaurant can be (legally!) found in the ferry parking lot: while the sign at the entrance warns non-ferry customers that the lot is for ferry passengers only, there are several spaces marked out for John's customers on the far side of the lot, nearest to the restaurant.
The fish was very good, as were the fries. The gravy was interesting as I think there was a touch of curry in it, which I rather enjoyed. The coleslaw was fairly average. Be prepared to share a table and enjoy a conversation with someone you have never met.
