Overpriced for the quantity that they are serving. I was left hungry afterwards. Rude on the phone and in-person customer service was horrible. No greetings, no smiles, no thank you, not a single word said to me when I was there to pick up the food and pay for it. May as well just shut down the business with such a customer service. Regret giving this place a try.
Ordered two beef curries, two naans and a beef biryani for takeout. Great flavour and spice level as I prefer spicy food. Highly recommend for delicious South Asian food.
Very disappointing meals tonight. After repeating my order twice on the phone for five entrees was missing one of the meals when we got homeCan’t ever remember receiving Chicken Biryini made with chicken legs ???? And both chicken legs were undercooked , red on the bone , with risk of food poisoning …….. suggest you order elsewhere.Oh they don’t take credit card either , so be sure you have cash or money in your account for Interac.

Bad behaviour, overpriced and terrible food. It's better to go to some other restaurants than to waste your money here!
Horrible customer service. It felt like the customers are a burden to them. Very rude behaviour. They should learn etiquette and proper customer service.
Excellent Indian food. The restaurant is nothing fancy but that doesn’t matter when you’re getting high end authentic Indian food like this. Their prices are half that of India Gate and coming from someone who has eaten Indian food in dozens of different countries, this is as good as it gets in St Johns!
I had the butter chicken with rice and naan as well as a beef samosa (definitely did not need as the rest of the order was more than plenty) When I opened the butter chicken I was a little nervous as it didn’t look great, but when I mixed in the rice something magical happened, it became the best butter chicken I have had! I’ve had a lot! It’s not sweet like some, but more spicy and the flavours were amazing! I think people who negatively reviewed this place were put off by the decor (as it is a store for ethnic food) and they are not used to authentic food, but have only experienced the Canadianized version of their dishes. The naan and rice were well, naan and rice, both excellently prepared. I definitely recommend Shalimar if you are looking for some amazing and authentic flavours!
I never thought I’d say this about East Indian food, but it was bland. The flavours were muted. Eating mushy textures in the shadows. No bite.
Purchased this evening. Shared the butter chicken and beef biryani dishes. Both were full of flavour and very good portions. Will order again!
