Bought food for lunch for 7 people, some who had never eaten Indian food before, and they all loved it.My husband and I have had lots of exposure to Indian food and we both really enjoyed the meal.We had the butter chicken, beef Chana masala, samosas, rice, naan bread and a vegan chaat for me. Everyone loved it.I was also very pleased at all the vegan options they offer. This might become my new go to spot for takeout.Owners were very nice as well. Will definitely be back!
If you want to get genuine Bangladeshi food in St. John's this is the place to go.Apparently the owner has beef with a lot of local people because of the food quality or behavior, but I've never faced such an issue. The owner has always been good to me.However, one thing I would say is that this place has consistency issues. One day the food tastes really really good that it would be on top of any restaurant in the city on some other day the food would be completely wasted. For example, the meat would be raw or even smell a little bit sometimes.I believe the taste of the food depends on which chef is cooking on which day. But, If you're craving some desi food this is the place to go.
My buddy and I ordered "Kala bhuna" through skip the dishes. My little sister can cook it better than whatever I had that day and she is only 13 who learned to cook a few days ago. Now to the constructive criticism: Meat was dry and probably was going rancid, rice was undercooked, it was a disaster for my stomach and my mental health. My taste bud won't ever forgive me. In conclusion, not recommended if you're looking for a true Bangladeshi taste. 1/10.
This restaurant is just ripping people off. Their food is nothing near to proper Bangladeshi cuisine. And yes, their Biriyani is not actually biriyani. It's a very mildly salted rice. That's it.Hope everyone will be carefull!!
Food:My friend and I ordered Kala Bhuna and it was not nearly anything that we Bangladeshis call "Kala Bhuna". There was green pepper instead of green chilli. Please name the items accordingly, as it could be named as Beef bhuna/Beef Curry or Beef with Pepper(!), or whatever you see as a good fit for the ingredients you used.Customer Experience:I placed a comment about the food not representing true Bangladeshi taste and about using green pepper in the so-called "Kala Bhuna".The reply from the owner looked like this,"its not green pepper, its green chopped chilies to bring more flavour. May be you come here new and still having home taste bud. Its ok you will get used to. Thanks for your comment."Now, the first thing is, what type of Bangladeshi guy will be unable to differ a green chilli from a green paper? Only a blind one. And, most importantly, yeah whoever commented on an order, a newcomer, a settled immigrant, a student or whoever, you do not have any right to say anything about it.Now, what? HOME TASTE BUD??? Who are you to comment about my home taste bud? I will keep my (!!!) Bangladeshi taste bud using what I tasted as my mother and other Bangladeshi people cooked. So, do you recommend customers to replace their tongue before dining at your place?I have attached two screenshots. One is the response I got through UberEats, and another is a review of some other customer, where the owner posted 'lol' as a reply to a review. It also has another customer complaining about butter chicken being too sweet.Suggestions:1 - If you say Bangladeshi and East Indian food in your restaurant name, please try to serve the same. Minus (-1) star for not being authentic and consistent.2 - Name the items properly, after looking at what you used as ingredients. People expect Kala Bhuna when you say Kala Bhuna as the name. -1 star for improper naming of the item.3 - Please get trained about how to behave with customers and how to respond to customers'critical feedback. One part of the business is how you treat your customers. Definitely not with 'lol' or derogatory comment about his taste bud. -2 star for customer treatment. And this is one of my several times of dining in and ordering at their place. Every time the experience was more or less same.
Best butter chicken in the province!
The food is great and the atmosphere is so pleasant especially with the little decorations, feels like a mini Bangladesh within St. John's!
The food was amazing, as always, it's been two years, won't go that long again! The place is clean, well lit, and the prices are decent. Glad to see they survived the Pandemic!
I can’t say enough good things about NJ’s. What a great experience. Awesome food and awesome service. Can’t wait to eat there again.
Good food and friendly service always makes dining out worth the effort and this place falls in this category. We'll be going back several times to check out several of the menu options. The portions are also generous for $$. Pending on your expectations the environment is more restaurant then fine dining which is not a negative, just an observation.
