Ordered a burger, small fries and pop for takeout. The order came up to over $17. They had no toppings for the burger, the burger itself tasted horrible. Fries came on a plate wrapped in paper. They need to change oil in the fryer. The male cook in the back was not wearing gloves or mask. The food was not worth even $5 all together. My overall experience is ewwwww
This review is a bit late as I went to Ches’ a couple of months ago. Anyway, when I got my order, I can’t say I was impressed by the look of it and I also found it wasn’t cheap at all. Then, when I opened the order, I thought they forgot the dressing that I specifically asked for. At that point I was not pleased one bit by my experience. Luckily, I was so wrong! It was absolutely delicious and they didn’t forget the dressing; it was under the food! I will definitely be going back. I’d tried the fish and chips at one other place before Ches’ and it was nowhere near as good!

Checked out this spot based on a recommendation received by a local acquittance. Ordered takeout in-store and the whole process was quick. The lady who took my order was friendly.It was my first time trying the NL staple called a “dressing”. I’m not a fan of stuffing usually but this was surprisingly delicious when eaten with gravy on top of fries!!! The meal was satisfying and fresh. The dish was meaty and the batter was just perfect. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the resto didn’t serve homemade tartar sauce. :( The experience would have been better if my fish wasn’t accompanied by prepackaged sauce.I’ll definitely return to get fries with gravy and dressing!
Ordered a three piece fish fries and gravy through skip the dishes.After putting my credit card info in the website went down..I'll never order again.
Decidedly average fish and chips. Hard batter, greasy, smaller portions. Halifax has much better fish.
Whenever I'm in St John's I treck up that hill to get my Chess's! Well worth it!
Currently there is no table service, however, there are no signs indicating that when you walk into the dinning room. So you have to order at the counter and pickup yourself. The place is a busy place so except a wait. Don't be surprised if you hear kitchen staff and others complaining and bickering.
Going here for many years. Recently bought a deep fryer. all the flavor is onion, butter, bread and mt scio savory. I've already paid off my deep fryer and it might be better. can I get a HOOOU YAHHH!
No chicken fingers so suggested a reasonable alternative. They would not accommodate. So I took my business elsewhere. Why not accommodate people when you can… I won’t be back.
