We decided to eat here after a recommendation as we both enjoy Chinese food and were not in the mood for pizza (which is what a lot of the restaurants serve in Saint John). They’ve recently reopened for dine-in (I presume that COVID had instituted the take-out only?) My husband had a bowl of wonton soup and the beef with green onions and rice. I had chicken fried rice and we both had oolong tea. I have to admit, I was surprised at how many full sized wontons were in the rather large bowl of soup. I’m used to one or two, this had 5, plus large pieces of broccoli. The food was brought each on a plate and the servings were generous, but we had to ask for separate plates to be able to share. We did end up with take out containers of our left-overs which we were able to reheat in our hotel for lunch. My husband raved about his beef with green onions (photo) claiming it was some of then best Chinese food he’d had. While my chicken fried rice was tasty, I was disappointed that the pieces of chicken were so small that they appeared minced and I had to hunt for them. I’m also used to some vegetables in fried rice (bits of carrot, peas, green onion, and/or peppers) this had only a bit of onion (photo). The service was excellent and they were cautious about my husband’s shellfish allergy.
The chicken fried rice is the best in the city. And the beef and broccoli. And the wonton soup. The combos are huge. Just go! <3
Food is always fresh and fast when ordering takeout. I especially love curry chicken. Egg rolls are quite yummy too and always taste like they are fried in fresh oil. That’s a good sign for knowing the kitchen cares about quality.
My #1 place in Saint John to eat!... Joe Handrahan? Every mouth full is an explosion of YUM! ?
