I eat lunch at The Palate often and I have never had a bad meal. Always so good and you can expect it to be every time. Love the food.
Simply, an average restaurant trying to be a fine dining restaurant. Driving past this place and reading a few reviews I decided to try this restaurant. Well it was average at best. We ordered the special of the evening, a steak and a salmon dish. The steak dish was an average cut of beef with some fresh vegetables, mashed potatoes and a jus to add flavour and mask the dry meat. Beef tasted great as well as the veggies. Now the salmon dish. Order it, because it the salmon is great tasting, a bit over cooked and dry, but still decent enough to enjoy. Tell the chef to not put the taters (which I hated and was very disappointed in for mashed potatoes). The price point is definitely higher than the food quality. Now, last thing. I was craving for some Creme Brûlée and I should not have done it here. Quebec is where it's at. The chef made a serious mistake of making the creme like a lemon meringue and it was way too sharp for a traditional creme brûlée. I get what the chef was doing but don't try to fix something that ain't broken. Above all that I have said, the staff were excellent! I've been here a few times now, and I think it's hit and miss. When it's good, it's amazing. Lunches here are usually excellent, their sandwiches are amazing. Dinners get spotty. The seasoning on meats is very inconsistent, heavy sometimes and other times nonexistent. The meat has been overcooked and dry. We've also sat through a few occasions of staff fighting amongst themselves, and at least once we've watched staff quit on the spot.
I have been here on Friday night lately for a dinner with my supervisor and my friends at around 6 pm. My suggestion is that you should make a reservation before hand as the place can get very busy on Friday.For lunch, I found it is quite busy from Monday to Friday as well. You may need to book a table ahead of time to avoid disappointment.The food is good. They always have specials of the day, which is not on the menu. Ask for them, most of the time they are surprisingly very good.The price is good for the food quality and services.The parking can be tricky during during the day for Monday to Friday as you have to pay for street parking. If they are full, you have to drive one more block and use the city’s parking lot (paid) and walk back to the restaurant. The street parking is free after 5 pm from Monday to Friday and all day on the weekends and holidays.
Our group enjoyed dinner here last night and I was very impressed by our service and food! I thoroughly enjoyed Harvest Maple Salad, the Pork Loin entree, and omg the Baked Brie was amazing!! ?
What a wonderful place and atmosphere!!!! I had never eaten here before, I went last night with a friend I hadn't seen in 20 years. We had so much fun the food was AMAZING!!!! And Vanessa our server what a Gem she was to have her serve us. Keep up the great work! Next time I'm back in town I will be back for dinner!
Always a great experience. Not crazy about the decor but came for the food. Great service and always really fresh delicious food.
Excellent food. Fresh and flavourful. Nice craft beer and wine selection. Our server was lovely and engaging. She made excellent menu recommendations. Will definitely dine here again.
