What a lovely and unexpected surprise this was... I landed in Canada yesterday (from the UK) and today was my first full day enjoying Winnipeg... My friend suggested a number of restaurants and when he mentioned Greek I figured I had to give it a try (as I am of Greek/Cypriot background).Upon entering the restaurant we were quickly welcomed and given a few different seating options. The tables were clean and there was Greek music playing but the volume level was just right so that it didn't hinder dinner conversation. The menu is uncomplicated and the ingredients are clearly listed. We ordered a few drinks. Ks home made and lightly sweetened ice tea was very refreshing and tasted delicious! After a few minutes we ordered the Saganaki (traditional Greek cheese) which is flambéed at the table and is served with some lovely pitta. Top Tip: Try to eat this whilst it is still hot/warm. Once it cools, the flavour changes.I ordered the Avgolemono soup (bowl) for my main. It's hard to explain this soup... Because the main ingredients sound unusual but they absolutely work together! The recipe was very authentic tasting and I enjoyed every last spoonful. We got talking with the owner and she explained that the recipe was her grandmother's and it remains unchanged after many many years. It's light but filling and very comforting. My friend ordered the Chicken Souvlaki which came with lemon potatoes, sautéed carrots and a smaller, cup of Avgolemono soup plus some garlic bread and Tzatziki dip.We were comfortably full and didn't have room for dessert but we finished off with a traditional Greek coffee which rounded off the meal perfectly.I didn't manage to get any photos of the food as we were eager to eat as soon as the food arrived. During the evening we saw many different meals being served and the Calamari looked like a very generous dish and smelled delicious.I will be back in Winnipeg in a couple of weeks (before heading back to the UK) and I intend to return to Kristina's because it was a great place to grab a delicious, healthy and reasonably priced meal.
We were a family of 13 and preordered our food to be family style. Kristina’s was extremely busy but the staff was always ready to help. The restaurant was very clean, the atmosphere lovely and the food was both delicious and beautifully presented. Thanks for making our celebration special!
Great food, fun inviting atmosphere staff welcomes as soon as you enter the building. From the owner, daughter Kristina and our server “George” not only was he making sure our table was taken care of but also a singer busting out a toon with the always amazing Duo Sancarlos. Our first time and it won’t be our lady can’t wait to go back.
First time going, for a Friday night is was busy, but not overcrowded. The food was AMAZING! Had the fire cheese (I don’t know what it’s called, but it will forever have that name in my heart) and it was delicious! Followed up with Greek salad and moussaka with veggies. Everything was spectacular, came quickly and service from our server (who has apparently been working for the family since she was 14) was amazing. Weirdly, the show stopper for me was the carrots. Again, everything was delicious, but the carrots were beyond. Perfectly cooked, amazing flavours and apparently just what I was craving! Thanks for the experience Kristina’s!
It was a special occasion so the restaurant was busy, but we had to wait for 30 after our reservation time before being seated. We were a party of 10, which is big, but should be manageable for an established restaurant.Once seated we were offered paper menus (as some members of our party couldn't read the menu on the website) but after 20 minutes without menus we gave up and decided on what we wanted from their website. We had to flag someone down to even take our drink order.Service was slow or not at all as our glasses sat empty during the bulk of the wait for food. Once the food finally arrived (for some of us) it was cold or overcooked. It would have been nice to all eat together, but the food was getting colder and more dried out as it sat in front of us, so we had to go ahead. Half the table was done eating before the food came for the other half and one person didn't get their meal at all. When the server saw that someone didn't have a meal she asked the person to "remind" her of the order assuring her that it was almost ready. The whole table now finished eating sat waiting for the final person's plate to arrive which took another 15 minutes. The rest of the restaurant had cleared out by the time the last meal arrived with the exception of what seemed to be friends/family of the staff. As an aside, it did appear that those tables got good service. I guess you have to know the owner to get decent service.I have eaten here before over many years and had both good food and good service, but those previous experiences have been overshadowed by this terrible experience. Besides a half-hearted apology for our table not being ready when we arrived, no one working there seemed to even care how terrible the service or food was. It was so disappointing, I don't think I would even consider returning.
My wrap was awesome. The lamb my wife received was terribly dry, must have sat for a long time before coming out. Other meals were hit and miss at the table. The service was beyond terrible. Never came back with menus, forgot one of our meals, 30 minutes until taking initial appetizer orders and over 2.5hrs for a supper. Terrible. We have had awesome experiences here in the past, this was not one of them.
Excellent food and superior service!
Great service! Love the live music! Management and hosts are amazing! Would highly recommend to anyone who wishes to enjoy Greek food in a great atmosphere!
We were there when it was super busy and had live music. The music from San Carlos was very good. The food I had was good, but burnt. My wife's food in the picture was much better. The service was super friendly. They were going crazy because of how busy they were. George was great and his daugher Rosa, (about 5 or 6 years old) was adorable! Definitely go for the atmosphere, the wine and the music. I will definitely go again and try something different on the menu.
Even with a full house they provided exceptional service. The food, cocktails and desserts were delicious. Great atmosphere. This was our first time and we will certainly be back. What an awesome family run restaurant.
