This place has a great atmosphere. Service was fast and very friendly. Food was amazing. The building itself is so unique and worth the visit alone. A great history of the building can be found all over the restaurant, with glass to see into the old pump house workings. Be advised it was hard to find parking in the area during peak times.
We went to go have dinner at this establishment. It has a very trendy feel to it, not overall a big location but the the atmosphere has very nice, modern flash with a touch of old-fashion appeal. This location used to be a pumphouse for the city and all the old pipes and mechanics are featured in the middle of this restaurant. The parking is a bit difficult as this is local, as you are parking on city streets. Free after 530pm.Started off with a Ceaser and it was well made.We were also served a jug of water which was room temperature. We ordered the Fish and chips ( Cod was the only choice for the fish) The fish was cooked very good. It had a nice crunch and the fish was pretty light on the inside. The tartar sauce was very tasty. It came with curly fries which were nothing fancy, mashed peas were also served with the dish.Twice fried chicken(small plate),we had them with the sweet & spicy sauce actually more sweet than spicy much like sweet chili sauce. The chicken was ok they were basically boneless chicken bitesBraised beef tacos, really hit the mark, very tasty and not too spicyMezze tray, this was served with naan bread, olive & tomato mixture, humus and tzatziki sauce, cucumber and whipped feta cheese. It was very tasty as well. Our server was very polite and we had no issues at all.The price for our meal & drinks was resonable for today's standards.Would recommend and will be return customers.??
So very welcoming! We landed in Winnipeg late, and this was the only place open nearby. Though they closed at 11pm and we arrived at 10pm, they didn't make us feel rushed at all. Some restaurants would say, "Kitchen closes soon, you have to order immediately.". Not here. They seated us, told us the kitchen closed at 10:30, and that we had plenty of time to order. I really appreciated that they have a full page menu of vegetarian and vegan options. Drinks and food were tasty and well-priced. The giant pierogie is to die for, a must try! The room is really nice too, and there was a fun crowd of all ages. Service, atmosphere, delicious food and drink, Pumphouse has it all!
Another great addition to Winnipeg’s Historic Exchange District. Beautifully restored with the original 1906 Fire Pump House equipment on display. Happy hour drink specials 7 days/wk with 2 time slots per night (see happy hour menu). Menu is not large but fits the bill for basic eats. I had the Dan Dan Thai and it was great (but would have love more veggies in it ?). Service was fantastic and attentive. Only complaint is you cannot serve white wine in a red wine glass ?. That’s the cocktail nerd in me. Check it out.
An absolute favourite! My partner & I have gone here a few times already and will keep coming back. Such good food (we love the variety of the menu), great atmosphere and always have had wonderful service. Parking is easy (sometimes can be hard/sparse in this part of the Exchange) and they make it super easy to find a reservation online. Can’t wait to come back soon!
They definitely have a nice atmosphere. At this point they weren't asking for vaccine verification so I headed to the bar to wait for the rest of my 20-person party. My old- fashioned was delicious. Our two-table party ordered separately by table, but the restaurant struggled to make sure that each table's orders were coordinated so that one table received their dinner together. It was 10 minutes between the time the first order landed on the table to the last. Manners tell us you wait for the last person to be served at a table before everyone can begin dining so this was a major error. I ordered the mussels with coconut and chili but was served a Mussels In Pernod but no one asked me if that was alright as it wasn't what I ordered. It was well prepared but at least one of the mussels was broken and I wondered if they tried to open a dead one or if was left over from another order. They need to make sure there are no broken shells in the dish. They were served with pita bread and fries but the sauce was too thick and the broken shells showed up more than once.Great atmosphere but service needs work and quality control should be better. I'd still give another chance.
Went to eat here back in December for a birthday brunch and haven’t had the chance to review and just going off from what I can remember but let me tell you this is probably one of Winnipeg’s greatest gems and A MUST-VISIT. The hostess was really nice and accommodating, I always expect restaurants like this to have snobby employees lol but James Avenue Pumphouse is different! I wish I can remember their names but they sat my partner and I at a lovely table with a nice view, my partner asked for a sample of a couple of craft beers before he ordered and they knew the drinks menu very well! The menu for entrees was appealing and even had some history about the building. Waited for awhile for the food but my partner and I were too busy soaking up the view and truly enjoyed the environment of the restaurant. I ordered a poke bowl and partner ordered a hamburger w/ DELICIOUS fries that I mooched off from. The food is 9/10 for me only because I would love to try other items on the menu but they were delicious, every bite was umami filled.Restaurant vibe during lunch hours is a 10/10. Will check it out with friends for dinner in March (the most available reservation available for me to book). So BOOK NOW!
The food was of the highest quality. We started off with the blackened chicken tacos. The kapow chili oil was just bomb ?. Also had the beet Orange kale salad which was delicious and refreshing. The Detroit style pizza was amazing. The pizza crust was perfect ?. And I absolutely have to recommend the beef dip. Probably hands down the best I had especially with that birria sauce. I also put some of that chili oil in it. That just made it top notch. The curly fries are probably the only thing I want a huge fan of. They were ok but everything else was absolutely amazing. My wife also really loved her coco mango mocktail. I had a taste and thought it was so delicious!
My sister and I visited for brunch and were very happy with the experience. The atmosphere was welcoming, the food and drinks tasted great and customer service was fantastic. Food prices are decent, although the drinks are on the more expensive side. The building itself is so unique and beautiful. I love what they did to the place but agree with other reviewers that you feel the cold air whenever someone enters/exits.It's definitely worth checking this restaurant out though. The menu has so many great sounding dishes to choose from so we will definitely be back to try something different!
Literally a restaurant built inside an old wpg pumphouse with the most delicious food and drinks. The cauliflower bites are a definite must try and the glazed salmon bowl is to die for. The best of food served with a taste of history. Go check it out! Like now!
