My partner and I visited Cordova years ago and decided to give it another chance yesterday evening. The experience echoed what I remembered: adequate but nothing stand-out.Wine selection is a little disappointing for a place with “Wine” in the title, some are quite low end and marked up almost 3x. The French Malbec went decently with food though. We didn’t try any but saw many nice looking cocktails go by.Food was not bad but not memorable. Olives were lightly smoky and citrusy with a good texture. Escargot had a mild butter sauce but the bread served with it was chewy enough to conflict with the texture of the escargot. The Chorizo Mac was creamy and indulgent but also quite mild, lacking any stand-out flavours. Nothing was offensive but it was just all kind of bland.Service was some of the worst I’ve had in a while. I arrived five minutes before my partner while he looked for parking. The server introduced herself and I got my first drink right away but then we never saw her again. My partner waited almost 20 minutes to get a drink when one of the cooks finally came out to take a drink and food order. Finished glasses and plates piled up on the table and no one stopped by to check in on us. I tried to get the server’s attention but she very carefully avoided looking at our table every time she went by. Eventually I went to request another drink from the bar, with three servers chatting idly behind it. Poor service sort of killed the vibe of indulging in drinks and snacks together.I could maybe see coming back for a quick bite and drink if you’re already downtown but it didn’t feel worth it as a destination on its own.
Last night my friend “rented” out the entire place. She was told the venue would be cleared out by 10:15 and ready to go for us. When we arrived (50 guests) the place was packed and there was no where for us to sit. When we asked the hostess about the hold up she was not helpful and Litterally started to cry. They struggled to get everyone out of the building. It wasn’t until basically half an hour later that the place finally cleared out. The music was not set up to our standard and we had to get a speaker dropped off by someone. There was no one at the front door patrolling who walked in and out so random people kept walking in. I left and came back 4 times with no checks if I was part of the “rented” out party. Also for 50 guests only one washroom? Does not seem adequate. Our drinks were awful, I watched the bartenders poor a 13$ double vodka cran she maybe put .25 oz in it. I had a shot of tequila with a friend, it was actually warm. It tasted like she put it in the microwave. At the end of the night the birthday girl had a conversation with the manger, they promised we could stay until 3 am while making the reservation. At 2 am she screamed at us that we had to leave and was extremely rude and distasteful. Overall unacceptable experience….
If you’re looking for amazing atmosphere, staff, and cocktails, then Cordova is the place to be!I have visited multiple times and never been disappointed. They truly bring a unique experience to the Winnipeg dining scene.
Cocktails and appies were the best! Love the decor and the vibe inside.
The interior is splendid and their tapas are very well curated. ?
This Place is Top Notch .The Vibe and atmosphere when you walk into Cordova is warm and welcoming , which is what everyone wants. Hues of Violet and warm Orange lamps make you feel that you are in the right space .. Food AND service is absolutely Outstanding. 5 out of five stars . See you here soon!
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and food a couple years ago but this time was disappointing. It’s still cozy and a nice environment but our server (perhaps she was new) was terrible. Knew nothing about wine or the food. The menu although small has a nice balance of choices but the food itself was not overly great. The Camembert had little flavour, the shrimp were small and there was minimal sauce to dip in the bread, which we got plenty of. The salmon mousse was good but not amazing. Overall the experience was disappointing. Unlikely to go back unfortunately.
The best charcuterie board I’ve ever had. Traveled the world, before it was illegal. Never has a board lasted and had another nut another blueberry another piece of cheese another pickle for an hour and a half. Don’t know don’t care what it cost. Best in the world period.
Sat on the patio on a Friday woth my boyfriend. It was quiet and romantic. We ordered 2 dishes, can't remember what they were called but one had shrimp and the other was a mixed tomato dip. Both were absolutely delicious. The whiskey sours were perfect! The only problem was that it was super busy inside so we had to wait for drinks. But well worth the wait
What a gem in the Exchange District of Winnipeg. Couldn’t recommend this spot more. Amazing ambiance, stellar service and exceptional cuisine. The manager Elisa who happened to also be our server couldn’t have been more informative and knowledgable about her product…everything from the food to the wine. Six stars. Can’t wait to go back. And they’re open late! Muy Rico Comida!
