I traveled to Victoria for my daughters convocation and finally had the chance to dine at Little Jumbo. It was highly recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. From the wonderful appies to the delicious entrees we were delighted with the quality, service and atmosphere of this little gem. Our server, Travis was friendly and professional. He was easy to speak with and just an overall pleasant individual. Little Jumbo is a winner in my books.
OVERALL: Cosy place with great Food and well-selected Drinks. A solid 4+ Stars review. A little pricey, but one of the best restaurants we found in Victoria.DETAILED REVIEW: The main restaurant feels more like a prohibition bar - with no daylight - it's dark, and cozy but also a little loud. The service was super friendly but also a little overworked. DRINKS: They have a good wine selection and especially some great local BC wines (e.g. the Charme D-ile Sparkling from Mill Bay D.C. bone dry and fresh). STARTERS: The grilled Romain Wedge and the Albacore Tuna Tartare were our favorites. The Rockfish Brandade was OK (surprisingly little flavor for such a rich dish) ENTREES: The steak is solid, nothing extraordinary- but definitely soft and delicious. DESSERTS: Chocolate Cheesecake with the Peanut Butter Mousse was a nice treat, not too sweet and worth it
Amazing cocktails and Travis was a great server!
Travis was an excellent server who recommended amazing cocktails. This is a great downtown date spot for elevated food and drinks - would 10/10 recommend.
We were wandering around Victoria on a cold Saturday evening, looking for a place to grab a bite that didn't have an hour+ wait. Luckily we stumbled upon this place that just had a table open up. The entrance is kind of hidden and tucked away. The rockfish brandade (fritter), frites, and the oysters were all excellent. They made me a couple of nice mocktails with the lumette gin as well. Very cute and cozy! It may be a little too loud to have an intimate conversation but completely loved the vibe here. Recommend to anyone in the area for a drink or a bite.
My first time eating here was for my birthday. I had read the reviews and had some friends talk about their experience.Over all not a bad experience. we were seated at the bar, was able to watch the bartenders make cocktails. Service was good, it did take a while to have our order taken.Although the food was good, I did find the price a bit high based on what was received. I understand a lot of factors go into building the price list, I just thought for a spot that is claimed to be one of the best in YYJ, my expectation was higher than what was received.
The deep fried brie appetizer that came on a bed of blueberry compote with pickled beets was absolutely DELICIOUS! The cocktails were strong and tasty, each drink came in a different glass. The main was so-so.
Came to this restaurant after our wedding to celebrate as I’ve heard good things, even our wedding commissioner was recommending this place, however I think the hype it’s overrated, for our visit to say at least, the cocktail menu is nothing impressive or innovative, the salad and the mussel are both meh, the pasta was under seasoned, the wine could get reduced a bit more as you can still taste the alcohol, only thing better was the duck wings. Service was good but the food is not worth going back for.
You just can't deny that this place is great. It's just a vibe you get when you are here. They real just put in effort into everything they do. They Care about your dining experience. We came into this restaurant after recieveing a Facebook promotion coupon for a free appetizer. How generous! And we loved the food, atmosphere and service. Only critique was that the mussels in broth could have been cooked down a little more because they did taste a bit like wine. But overall I still give this place a 5. There burger is one of the best in town!
Went for Done Around 2022 with my wife. The biggest issue seemed to be a lack of staff. There was a single server for the whole restaurant. Management should look at limiting reservations when they don't have staff. Had the asparagus appetizer. It was okay but needed seasoning. I had a flank steak entree. It also needed seasoning. While waiting for the server to get some salt, it got cold. My wife had the scallop risotto and it was delicious. Best part of the dine around experience. I had a Black Forest Cake pop for dessert. It was excellent. My wife had banana bread with parsnip ice cream. I've never tasted such dry banana bread in my life. Most of the bread was sent back uneaten. Overall it was a disappointing night. The staff were good, they just needed more of them.
