I ordered takeout here several times during my stay in James Bay. Always excellent, fresh food. I particularly loved the caesar salad and mussels, though the chocolate ganache covered mousse was delicious as well. I haven't eaten in, so cannot comment on service, but the food itself is well cooked and delightful.
Everything my husband and I ordered was delicious. We split the crab cakes - these may be the best I have had. I ordered the clam chowder which was very good and finished with the rhubarb/strawberry crisp and coffee - OMG! Hubby had the lamb ragu hash special which was way above average and a decent bread pudding. The prices are a little on the higher end but are definitely warranted for the superb quality and flavour compilation. Service was very good.
Highly recommend...I had their fried chicken burger which was great. Crispy on the outside, still tender and moist inside, not oily. I think the picture of a nearly empty plate (too full to finish the fries) tells you what you really need to know. Service was friendly and helpful.
The calamari was dreadful...very thick batter like one gets on deep fried prawns in bad Chinese restaurants, very rude waitress who totally ignored us while she spent at lest 10 minutes chatting it up with her friends at another table. I have eaten here several time and it is always hit and miss. Sometimes the staff is wonderful and the food really quite good and other times it is quite the opposite. With so many wonderful places to eat in Victoria this one is not a favorite.
Great brunch menu, yummy eggs benny, spicy Bloody Caesar, and very friendly staff (although like everywhere these days they need more staff). Not that appealing from the exterior (base of a condo), and careful of the narrow steep stairs from the street, but once inside it has a fun vibe.
the food is awesome. I had the French toast and my husband had the breakfast sandwich. mine came with a lot of different fruits. the coffee is strong but not bitter. the staff are very friendly and helpful. the service was fairly fast but had enough time to chat before our mouths were full of food. highly recommend.
Staff was great! Very attentive and funny! I was unhappy that the lamb burger could only be obtained well-done. Lamb looses all of it’s flavour when cooked that much. I know that B.C. has rules on how much meat must be cooked, so in that case the offering should be taken off of the menu. All IMHO! The booze was good and the staff was great! ?

What a lovely place with fantastic staff and great & tasty food. I had the freshly cooked mussels, they were amazing, afterwards the warm Reuben sandwich which I also enjoyed. The bread pudding was delicious.
After a long absence, it was wonderful to come back to the Heron! The place is even better than before, and the staff are upbeat, knowledgeable friendly and enhance the dining experience. The kitchen continues to shine with tasteful innovative creations and the whole atmosphere is genial, comfortable, and inviting.!
