Great clean Chinese food probably the best in Vic. The food is not greasy or saturated in sweet sauce & salt. Each ingredient comes together well as an emerging property in the dish. Good portion sizes too the only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is that the waitress was manning too much space and it took a while to seat us. I even saw a party behind us leave because of this.
Quite disappointing. Took an hour and a half start to finish to get a lunch combo, which was overpriced and small. Staff was friendly enough, no criticism there. If you are already in Victoria Chinatown, I would head elsewhere.
Underwhelmed by the experience. The server was nice, no mask though? The food was just no that good, kind of soulless, like a cheap takeaway food. The place on the inside is dark and not very welcoming
Food it's good. But place it self needs lots off upgrades. Ceilings black walls are black and it has a weird smell inside.
Great experience. Excellent food. Excellent price. The place was really busy the night we were there. There was a "Help Wanted" poster on the front door window, but the entire staff still did a great job. Would recommend Fan Tan to everyone. Unfortunately, it's impossible to please everyone.
It is NOT Chinese food despite of its name and menu and location. The price is reasonable, the portions are big and the ingredients are fresh but the execution was pitiful. We ordered spring rolls they came on a plate with this god awful sauce that tasted funky. The sauce on the sweet and sour chicken balls tasted like ketchup. The prawns and scallops in “green curry coconut sauce” is neither green curry or has any taste of coconut. The Cantonese chow mein was extremely salty and the sauce is super heavy. We ordered steam rice and it is obviously leftover rice heated up in a microwave. We left more than half the food and walked out hungry. It is such a pity because obviously the owner is not trying to skimp on the quality or the quantities of the food. It just need someone who can put it all together in the kitchen. It can be so much more.
The wonton really is one of the best I've ever had. The rest of the meal was hot, fresh and yummy! Waitstaff was prompt and friendly. It was my first visit. It won't be my last. ?
Good food and service but had to eat with our jackets on. Went for dinner at 5:30 . We are regulars but for the last 2 visits the restaurant has been uncomfortably cold. Please warm up the place.
Very good wonton soup and vegetables in chop suey were still nice and crisp. The chicken chow me in is a little lean on chicken. I did not expect to get craft beer at a Chinese restaurant so that was a delightful surprise. Would definitely come back.
Came here on our visit from Vancouver. After walking through Fan Tan Alley we turned the corner and saw some people eating food in the window table. We were immediately interested but kept walking around the area. Eventually came back as we were both very keen to try it out. I ordered the hot and sour soup with wontons and my partner ordered the Singapore style vermicelli. Both were delicious! The hot and sour soup was not the usual kind you get at Chinese places, it was very homemade and from scratch tasting. But very enjoyable! The waitress and owner were very friendly and kind. The vibe was really cool. Highly recommend. Almost want to go back there for dinner!
