We have been here on a few occasions. Both on the café side and restaurant side . The views are great, but businesses must provide a food experience to match, otherwise why bother. Boom and Batten does indeed match the food with the view. We would say the value is good as well. Though we haven't been for dinner yet, our brunches and happy hours we have come for have been very nice. As for reviewers mentioning a "time limit" , that has been the case for us the last two visits, both for brunch reservations with friends. We arrived today for our 10:45 reservation and were kindly told that there is a 12:45 reservation after us, and asked if that was ok. It was. I'd assume that if we had said no, we wanted more time , they would accommodate. Definitely recommend.
We loved our recent dinner. Wait staff was amazing and the food did not disappoint. We will be back.
What a wonderful Birthday celebration last night! Every item we ordered was so delicious and just got better and better...From the Prawn & pesto flatbread, to Elk Carpaccio, tuna tatami, baked brie to grilled octopus along with an avocado & pickled beet salad, plus great drinks and wine-- with great service and beautiful views, we were hard pressed to come up with a restaurant we have enjoyed more. My friends from California were thrilled with the experience and the cuisine!
First rate food & service, with stunning views! A "must" dining experience, and very easy walking distance from downtown.
We happened across this eatery walking back from west bay in the afternoon as we stopped for a drink and cake. The service on the harbour side was excellent and great carrot cake. We had a look at the dinner menu and it had an outstanding choice of dishes. They were able to reserve a table for us and we had an outstanding dinner. The evening staff were great attentive jokey discreet all in good measure. If you get the chance go there. Call them for a reservation don’t bother with Apps.
I always saw Boom + Batten while jogging around and always wanted to dine in there. I went with family and the lady at the entrance gave us Bar seats even though there were empty tables. We didn’t want to spoil our mood so we ignored and sat on the bar. All bartenders were friendly and nice. Servers were gentle and cheerful, but it was funny that they cleared plates without even asking. I still had my greens left in my plate, chips in my friends plate, pizza crust in my wife’s plate and they without asking cleared them which was annoying as we intend to eat those. We were busy talking and they swiftly cleared them all. Roarrrr!!Nice Bartender went to ask if tables to could be given, but the lady at the entrance said we can be given table in 20 mins. but we will have to do fresh order meaning more waiting for the food to arrive. So in 20 mins we could have got the table, but then why did she say when we entered the restaurant at 1pm that we will have to wait till 3pm to get the table? Didn’t she lie? No smile, no emotions just mechanical grumpy conversation. She should be moved to dishwashing. No care for little kids and making them sit on the bar seat when in 20 mins we could’ve been given the table. Very idiotic host.Food was very good but very small portions. Alcoholic Coffee drinks were yummmm but again way too small cups despite the price being too high. Hey! Why not make it a little generous so that customers will return more and more and you will get loyal fan following?Everything was good but making 5 people sit on the linear bar table even though tables were empty was ridiculous. Shame actually. Reflects a lot on the money minded commercial practice rather than care and building relationships… happy with food but not happy with the host.Edit: just checked my receipt. We ordered three Hot Chocolate and we were very happy with the taste and whipped cream on top. It wasn’t mentioned in the menu that whipped cream was 50 cents. Servers didn’t say whipped cream will be charged extra, we did NOT ask for whipped cream, but they added it by themselves and charged us 1.50$. It’s a meager amount but it is expected that either it is mentioned in the menu or told by the server. But when we never even asked for whipped cream, how come it was added to our order and charged too? There’s a lot of discrepancies happening… good food but somehow why aren’t we happy?? Make any excuse, you’re just wrong…
Boom+Batten is definitely a fine dining restaurant in Vic West. The viewof the harbour brings it altogether. The steak was really good and juicy that goes perfectly with the mashed potatoes. Great cocktails and services tooo
Great menu, lovely views of the Victoria Harbour and Fisherman’s Wharf, sit back and watch the Harbour Air planes land and take off, and admire the yachts of the rich.
As in a previous review regarding the tables having time limits-my girlfriend and I experienced a count down (4 times from server and 1 from hostess!) as to how much time we had left to be at our reserved table, because the next reservation for our table had arrived. We felt rushed and pressured during our entire time there, and we would have actually been able to comply with their ordering us to hurry up and get out (5 times) if the service wasn't so terrible. It took our server 20 minutes to get my glass of wine to me, another 15 to serve our first applies. Then basically forgot about us for minimum 1/2 hr to then come back and ask us what else we wanted to order. We ordered 3 more dishes, she took the order, then informed us we had 10 minutes to eat said dishes (which of course she hadn't given to the kitchen yet!)and left our table. We sat there stunned for a while til the next time our server walked past us so I could stop her, confirming that if we had to leave in several minutes...how we were to eat the dishes that had yet been served to us? She said she would see what she could do. She returned 10 minutes later and said she had bought us some time...we had another 15 minutes added to our countdown and she had courteously requested the kitchen to put a rush on our order. ?! Upon delivery of said dishes, our dirty plates from our previous appies were left in front of us, the new dishes were basically "dumped" all in the front of our table (we were in a booth) I had to get up and move our finished plates to the front of table and put our new dishes in front of us. Fries were cold, clams were cold-the sourdough toast was soggy (and had some kind of orange sauce swirled and dried on it that I think was supposed to be tasty, but rather tasted like Ragu sauce was splatted on the bread) as it was sitting in the sauce for a while (remember this order was rushed-one would think it would arrive fresh, hot and happy to get us on our way) We were not asked how everything was? Did we need anything else? By the way when I booked the reservation (on open table and I also phoned) I mentioned a couple times we were celebrating my girlfriends Birthday. Our server came by again (not to chk on anything)just to tell us she extended our time for another 15 minutes, then rushed off. I felt like we were on the Amazing Race. By then, we had lost our appetite, the food was mediocre, we barely touched the cold truffle fries (I've tasted MUCH better) and I waited for our server to come by again so I could ask for our bill. She came back with two bills-we were confused as it looked like we were being charged twice for the one order of tuna tataki?? So I informed her I was treating my friend for her Birthday and only needed to have one bill. She then went into explaining how smart "they" are to "read" the table and interpret that because there were two women, and that she assumed we would want the bill split. ? Whatever happened to inquiring how we would want the bill? or hey Happy Birthday? We asked for her to make the fries to go, left 1/2 glasses of our wine (which is outrageously expensive!) and were gathering our things to leave. THEN, the hostess came by and told us we had to leave, the next reservation was there for our table. Yup. This was the last straw. I told her that we had been harassed and hassled during our entire time with regards to hurry up and get out, and it ruined our entire experience and I wanted to speak with the manager. Upon leaving the restaurant, I did get to speak with the manager. He listened, he apologized but then he went into explaining their policies of table times for 2 ppl, 3 ppl, 4 ppl. I thought how ridiculous. And told him so. I did tell him that it would help if they wanted to move ppl in and out of there on a timely basis that maybe their service should be just as fast to fit this system that they have. Server slow, kitchen slow...not our fault. He asked me how he could make it better. That is also when I said I felt it was not the customers position to make o
My husband and I came all the way from Vancouver and we were super happy with everything we ordered. The service was excellent and situational aware. We ordered 3 different appetizers to share and they all came really fast. Then for the main course we had lamb and scallop risotto. I have to admit that everything was delicious. I would love to come back soon!
