100% worth the hype. Visiting here as a tourist from the USA from recommendation of some local friends and I totally understand why.Food was AMAZING. I got the beef teriyaki, which was incredibly flavorful and generous in portions. Come hungry, you’re going to want to leave every plate clean! Seating and ambiance was comfy, and felt very friendly for groups and dates! Staff was helpful and food came out quickly— especially impressive for a Friday night! If you’re stopping through Victoria, this place is a must-go. I’ve never had a better beef Teriyaki than this, and I look forward to the next time I’m here so I can try some more amazing food!

Like many restaurants these days, Azuma is shooting itself in the foot by not hiring enough staff and clearly not keeping the staff they do have employed happy or well-paid. The service, as a result, is pretty bad. We got our appetizers a good half hour before the rest of the food. Sushi should be a relatively quick bite to prepare and eat, something you can do with half hour to kill before going to the movies. Our table was not clean when we arrived, which is a pretty big faux pas in COVID times. The taste itself was...fine. Pretty standard. When service at such an establishment is bad, it's not a reflection on the staff but on the ownership and management. In a weird way, I respect the staff more for bad service. Why should they fake a smile and break their backs providing a good service when they're not happy with their conditions and not compensated enough for their work? The waiters were probably covering double the number of tables they should've been covering, and I'd bet at the same rate as before. How could the service not suffer?Don't buy into the lie that there's a worker shortage going on. There's a shortage of jobs you can do that pay enough so you can afford to live in North America, and restaurants, small and big, are part of the problem. Since the pandemic, rents and prices of everything have gone up. Wages haven't. Pay. Your. Staff!

This has been a go to for many years for the wife and I. They always give you tea and the food was reasonably priced and the rolls were a decent size.We went in again yesterday, it wasn’t busy maybe four tables all together. We noticed they updated their menu. It’s the same menu but cleaner. The prices are all up 1 or 2 dollars and the rolls are very small. 25 bucks used to fill us but now it’s only enough for a bowl of rice and sauce and two rolls that honestly I would have expected from a grocery store, NOT a sushi restaurant. I have always liked shiki sushi but I never liked that they charge you for green tea. But I will gladly pay for a cup of tea to have a more decent sushi roll. Pathetic sushi Azuma PATHETIC

The pricing was super cheap form japanese food and the staff we're pretty nice. The whole place was pretty quiet on a Saturday early evening which I thought was strange but all good. In all good affordable Japanese food.

Excellent place for authentic Japanese cuisine. Whether to indulge in sushi rolls or a full meal, numerous options are available at a fair price. I recommend the Bento box lunch which is available with a variety of mains and all you can eat rice with a sesame sauce that is very tasty.

Azuma used to be one of my all time favourite places to go. The service and quality have gone so far down hill, I will never return. The California roll smelled so fishy we couldn’t eat it. The salad was mushy and the steak sauce was thick and oniony. It also tastes as if the deep fry oil hadn’t been changed for a while.

Holy, what is with all the salt? Also don't understand the salty gravy on the rice. Ordered the chefs special bento box. Service was good and good value for lunch but can't eat there again until they put more attention into their cooking.

absolutely delicious. my fav sushi place in Victoria. a local favourite !!

This place was really nice, personally my favorite part of this restaurant is the really quick service. For me we got the food within to it of ordering this is a really good option if you need a good average priced sushi. I really recommend.

I cant even give them one star. We were early, around 530, they were not busy, we ordered 4 different rolls. When they came, they looked like they had been sitting in a fridge for 3 days, we tried a few bites and they tasted horrible and were ice cold. We did not eat them and complained to the server who said nothing and just brought us the bill. Nobody cared... no Manager.. so we paid and left. Thank God we did not order raw fish, we probably would be in the hospital. Horrible horrible food!
