I visited Bolen Books inside the Hillside Shopping Center on the 23rd of November at 9:10AM to buy my children's Christmas presents. Opening time was 9:30AM, and I walked around the food court for a minute. I found out that A&W was offering a $1 coffee, so I ordered a cup of coffee at the counter.I said "Can I ask for a $1 coffee?" and the cashier asked "small? regular?". I replied "Regular black, please". She said "it's $1.05" and I handed her a $5 bill. But the change she gave me was $1.95, not $3.95.She turned around and was making the coffee, and as soon as she handed me the coffee, I showed her the change in my hand and said the amount was not correct. She said that she doesn't have any change right now, and she told me to wait to give me the change when she gets it from the next guest. I was bewildered and embarrassed, but the sudden situation kinda forced me to wait. The next customer placed an order and paid by his card.I took photos of my coffee and change with my iPhone just in case. But as soon as she saw me taking pictures, she said she just got the change and gave me $2. The next customer paid with a card a second ago, how did she get cash change?I was a bit dumbfounded and angry, but there were other customers in a long line and I didn't want to start an argument so early in the morning, so I just sat in the food court and waited and entered the bookstore.I don't know if she tried to deceive me because I look stupid and am an immigrant who doesn't speak English well, but I hope she doesn't do that in the future. So disappointed!!
Sometimes you just want a burger! The food court at Hillside Mall is open, with outside seating (both covered and uncovered). Seating right outside was busy. The A & W burger hit the spot when I needed some fuel. Service was fast and friendly, and it was quite busy despite inner seating being closed due provincial COVID public health order.
I don't often eat fast food but I was so pleased that I ate at A&W in the Hillside Mall food court this afternoon! The cashier was friendly which is always nice but, best of all, my meal was delicious. I had the Teen Burger combo with onion rings. My teen burger was made exactly as requested (no pickles, no onions) and it was hot and fresh with a nice thick slice of tomato and a generous portion of crisp lettuce (sounds yummy, right...it was!). The onion rings were also hot and fresh and cooked to perfection!...melt in your mouth good! I would highly recommend a stop at the A&W the next time you're at the Hillside Mall...I will definitely go back!
App doesn't work for free coffee but cash was nice enough to oblige.
Reasonable time, nice workers, a decent location. Tried the vegan nuggets (temporarily available until early January to test popularity)! They were absolutely wonderful.
Getting better
Best chicken strips. Real pieces of chicken breast. And they will serve them in the morning. At McDonald's they won't make any chicken strips until 11 a.m.
Tried a beyond meat sausage and egger. Seemed like the calories were the same as for the meat equivalent. Too bad. But, texture, spiciness were better than the meat. I'm switching.
We tried the beyond meat burger after hearing all about it from our friends. Not terrible.
I ordered a mozza burger and beyond burger and was given 2 mozza. Took it back to ask for a beyond and worked claimed it was a beyond burger but “in the mozza” packaging. I’m not sure if I believe this as I compared the two and they looked exactly the same.
