Exceptional omakase experience for my birthday dinner. From start to finish the level of detail and finesse by Chef Kevin and his team was incredible. What a treat. Thank you so much!
Had an absolutely spectacular meal here on Saturday. It was closer to art than food. Every dish was meticulously prepared and presented. The space was also beautifully decorated to highlight the food and had a soft, calm ambience. For a special treat, I highly recommend eating here. Ive never had a meal like this and it will remain in my memory as one of my favourite meals of all time.
A very interactive, fun, and engaging dinner experience with a surprise element because you don't know exactly what dish is next. The many courses served one at a time make it like a Japanese food adventure as you journey through each bite size item. All the ingredients were fresh and high quality. I have had better omakase though, that was finer and tastier. However, this place is still very good and worth going to again.
Honestly this was some of the best sushi I have had in my life. The appetizers were unique and delightful. The rice (yes the rice) was perfection. Why only 4 starts? At over $200 per person (food only) it was also one of the most expensive meals I’ve had. The quantity and variety didn’t warrant the price even as delicious as it was and that we went during Covid restrictions. Secondly there was not the same amount of variety of flavours with the sushi as the appetizers. I would not have been able to tell about half of them apart. Like another guest wrote they should add more unique sauces pared with each type of fish. That said if they lower their set price or open for lunch I would go back again. One final note, if you love waygu they are preparing it without the use of gas or the ability to seat it at high heat. This was not even in my top 10 of presentations so I would skip it as an ad on.
One of the most unforgettable dining experiences I have ever had! My bf booked NYE dinner at sushi bar shu for two of us and everything was just perfect. I loved how each dishes were prepared right in front of our eyes, and handed fresh from chef’s hand to our hand. I also loved how overall atmosphere of the restaurant was so clean and minimalistic. I want to thank Chef Shin and the whole bar Shu team for making our NYE extra special!
Dining at Sushi bar Shu was undoubtedly an amazing experience - the quality of the food was there, presentation was on point, services and chefs were professional and knowledgeable. Every dish seems like a piece of art, and together, they complement each other nicely as an omakase should. Although the food was good, the portion was a bit little, so we had to head to a pizza place right after to fully complete our dinner. But was it something that is worth going back? In my opinion, I would say it’s definitely worth it for a one time thing. The place gives you a sense of an omakase that you can’t really find elsewhere in Vancouver; however, comparing to other omakases, there is definitely a gap.
Prepare for a whole experience. This takes a while and might not fill you up 100% but it’s very good. Most stuff just melts in your mouth. The rice is perfectly cooked and you can feel each individual rice grain without it being undercooked. The chef’s cutting is hypnotizing.Only minor downsides were: the seaweed sashimi’s seaweed was quite overpowering for me and I couldn’t taste the rest. Also, the miso soup was average IMO.Pro tip: eat a bit of the ginger in between sushi servings to cleanse your palette — not with the sushi.
Had an amazing experience on New Years Eve. I wanted to plan out my proposal and Sushi bar Shu was happy to accommodate. They helped with recording and making the moment special.Great ambiance. Food was amazing with great presentation. Would definitely come back!
The sushi and dishes were great but service did feel disjointed as we were seated at a large table away from the sushi bar and were being served at different times than other guests at the bar. We hung our coats over the backs of chairs and were not offered hot towels to clean our hands before having sushi served directly into our hands as other guests were given towels. At the time of the booking the menu showed 12 pieces of sushi, but chef explained after arrival that the full menu wouldn't be served but instead would be supplemented with other sashimi style bites instead. Would recommend adding the caviar if given the option. The meal was delicious but overall was not filling.
