Amazing steamed pork & vegetable bun, baked BBQ pork and apple tart!!
It’s probably the only iconic place left in Chinatown. It was a must stop for my out of town visitors. They had to buy a bit of everything including their famous apple tart which I may add, is to die for. Everything else was delish. It’s located on West Pender off Main Street. It can be challenge looking for parking. Just look for the huge white buns in a steam basket on the top of their awning. There’s a restaurant at the back which was busy. We only stopped for the baked goodies. Prices were okay considering you’re getting tasty treats.
It's probably a good thing I don't live nearby, else I'd be eating multiple pastries a day, everyday.Everything's good. Seriously. The cha su bao's got a soft, fluffy bun and savory meat. Sesame balls are bursting with filling. The pluto had yummy citrus undertones. Most surprising was probably the red bean donut with it's sugary coating. And of course, the dan tat had the perfect consistency.
Very delicious food, bought the buns and ate in as well. Every dish ordered was on point, lucked out on our server who was very nice and attentive. She asked how we were and was happy to engage in conversation. Very rare in Chinese restaurants. Come here you won't be dissapointed.
If we ever talk about SIOPAO only New town can satisfy my cravings! It is the best and they have other favourites as well. If you haven’t tried them then you better!
Try out their Steamed buns!! All variety are so good. You can dine in or just order for take out. Lots of homeless in the area though so just watch out if walking from downtown.
Iconic!New Town Bakery is famous for their Bao/buns. Best buns in Vancouver/Canada. We've been coming here for 40 yearsYou won't regret visiting. Line ups on the weekend but it moves fast. Reasonably priced and delicious.
One of the best Asian bakeries in the city. They also serve Chinese food inside that you can sit down restaurant style. The food is also very delicious. I highly recommend this place, the pork spring rolls are super amazing. The Chinatown location is kinda in a sketchy area, the food is worth getting beat up for.
Pineapple buns
Excellent congee and bakery! Huge congee menu. The egg tarts and sesame rolls were great. The Hainese chicken was good / not like I expected from other countries. The Singapore noodles were only ok. Lo pak turnip cake was the best we have ever had. Hot and sour soup was good. If you go here, order: congee, lo pak, egg tart, and sesame ball!!’
