For a taverna, I expected Greek music. Don't be fooled. All night, they played club music. So if you're looking for a club, this is the place. It was a disappointing experience waiting for a Greek night out. Instead, it was a club with decent Greek food.Don't expect a Greek vibe. You're not getting it.
Very pricey dishes for the quality and NOT a pleasant vibe! Took a date here on the weekend after reading some of the other great reviews. Waiter's were fine however the music was way too loud to enjoy a conversation and felt like they were trying too hard to be a club. Felt like the bass was shaking the tables. This place isn't worth the effort unfortunately, tons of better options on Commercial drive to come back here anytime soon!
This place is awesome!! After my experience here I thought for sure this is a hidden gem on Commercial. After reading the reviews, I am shocked to see anything bad! Someone previously commented here the Greek salad was bland… as a Greek person, who has travelled to Greece many times… I can confidently tell you that is what an authentic Greek salad is like. No lettuce, no crumbled feta, only vegetables, olives and a block of feta cheese. As for the rest of our meal; the deconstructed chicken gyro was excellent, very tasty, and perfect to split between 2 people. We did not have a reservation for Saturday evening but were lucky enough to score a table without waiting even though the restaurant was busy. Our food came fast, our server was pleasant, and most importantly: we left full and satisfied. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in authentic Greek cuisine.
A bit on the pricier side of Greek food. Bartender and servers were great. A good restaurant for a one-and-done kind of thing. Try it once and you’ll be ok if you don’t go back. The mussels were so good it was a bit mind boggling. I wish their more expensive dishes came with more bread or whatever sides they choose.Ambience was perfect. What threw me off was some of the food came out a touch cooler than what I would’ve hoped for.
Thank you Niko and team! This was our second visit to Loula’s in the past year and we were once again delighted by the great food, strong service and warm ambience at this fun and progressive restaurant. As a Canadian of Greek heritage, I have enjoyed my share of good Greek food but Loula’s is simply the best in town! The freshness of the ingredients and their innovative take on many of the classics, takes this cuisine to a new level. On this past visit, we were so richly received with such care and attention, that we will be planning our next visit later in the evening to enjoy the festive nature this space offers after dark.If you want the best of quality and service, this is the place you are looking for you. We had a wonderful dining experience here at Loula’s. The rotisserie lamb was flavourful and was well seasoned with herbs. I suggest ordering a platter of meat and 2 sides. Our sides were the rice and Greek salad, they make it just like Greece. I liked that the food was brought out hot. My personal favourites were the spanakopita and grilled octopus!! The service was great and the manager Niko adds a personal touch by welcoming guests and sampling shots of Ouzo!
Amazing cuisine and service. Very busy and nice environment but the music is kind of loud. You must reserve before coming.
Nice decoration and yummy dessert ?Food was Ok responsible price and friendly staff , make sure to make a reservation.
I was pretty impressed with the food here, though yes, as other reviews say, it's on the pricey side. Go for a nice date night? We got several lamp chops which were pricy ($9 each) for the small size but they were tasty and came with bread and tzatziki. Also got potatoes, calamari, broccolini, and ekmek. All of these were great, and so were the service, music (someone decided to play Kruangbin all night and I wasn't mad about that) and ambience. Overall, I would say they elevated Greek food.Note: if you go, check out the restroom interiors!
1-star for the nice decor.I haven’t felt this unsatisfied at a restaurant in a long time. Aside from being overpriced, the food is of poor quality, and in our case, inedible. We ordered a 1/2kg of the 48-hr marinated “rotisserie lamb” - and that was a lie. It was deep fried and very tough. At a $30 price, it was mostly all bone and fat, and very greasy. There were very few bites of meat in there, if at all, but you had to really scavenge for it. Most of it is just bone and gristle. It was literally inedible, and considering other reviews have said the same thing, I doubt any changes are coming. The sides we got were a saffron rice that didn’t taste of any saffron, and a broccolini that was too charred. At least the Greek potatoes were tasty, even if too soft, and our starter feta with philo and honey was ok. All dishes came out at a random order, which we were told ahead of time, but it made for a very random dining experience, with each dish more disappointing than the last. This entire miserable meal was accompanied by horrible club music and terrible service. Our server didn’t check on us a single time during our meal.I love Greek food and was happy to try a new restaurant in the city, but sadly I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
