This is what $88 worth of curry looks like. No rice included. They also have this ridiculous statement suggesting for extra tips on their Uber Eats menu:"ALL TIPS go directly to our staff who work tirelessly for close to minimum wage during these times."Excuse me? You have the audacity to send food portions enough for a small child and also exclaim you pay your staff close to minimum wage? The food tasted fine but the value is awful. Never again.
There is a promotion on UberEats today. If you buy one Paneng Chicken Curry, you can get another one for free. I understand it’s a promotion and I expected the restaurant would make a smaller portion to make money. However, I didn’t expect it would be such a small portion. The $22 curry is in such a little box. Two boxes cannot simply make a dinner. Totally disappointing!
Delightful bright clean atmosphere with huge windows, delicious food presented beautifully, and motivated friendly staff. The Pad See Ew had very gelatinous noodles that were a more "challenging" consistency than I'm used to, but the sauce and spice and accompanying vegetables were good. I tried the Curry dish as well and it was a delicious rich curry with subtle flavors.Save room for dessert! The mango sticky rice is served with actual slices of mango lined up around the sticky rice and was delicious.
Used to be one of the best Thai Restaurants in Vancouver but with popularity they dont seem to care anymore about the customer. They will not make a simple substitution of tofu for chicken because “they are too busy”. Also they were sold out of three of the menu items I wanted. All this with maybe the most expensive Thai Food in Vancouver. They are more concerned it seems with takeout volumes. I would skip.
***Warning to readers that the owner or manager who responds to negative reviews seems to be copy and pasting the same response for everyone. I've done a quick scan on many of the accounts that left negative reviews and majority of them seem like legitimate people who've left positive reviews at other restaurants. Who knows, maybe it was an off day for restaurant.Anyways....Saw a bunch of photo's on Instagram and decided to go here tonight.Unfortunately I will never go back after today. I honestly feel robbed, almost cat fished but with food.I wanted to like it but I would have to agree with some of the negative comments here. It really felt like a fast food restaurant serving cold and expensive food. When I was done my meal, I had wish I gone to Down Low Chicken next doorThings I ordered:1. Papaya Salad - Wasn't awful but all I could taste was fish sauce. It really lacked the sweetness I was hoping for but the saltiness was over powering2. Chicken Wings - Not too sure if it was their supplier but their chicken wings were all bones with little to no meat. And the little meat that it did have, it was dry. We were advised there would be 5 wings and they gave 6 or 7. It almost seemed like they knew It would be an issue but never addressed this. The dish was also cold. The only thing good about the wings we're the sauce3. North Eastern Style Steak - the steak was probably the biggest disappointment of the night. It was as cold as the papaya salad. It was also dry and tough to chew. When I look at what I got compared to the photo's others have posted, they definitely seemed to have overcooked it. If I was being honest, it tasted like a day old steak that came out of the fridge.4. Red Curry Duck - The duck had a weird taste to it, almost as if had been stored incorrectly. Nothing special about the curry itself but we couldn't finish it. Keep in mind, I'm a huge carnivore and it's very rare that I won't finish my proteins.Service:It wasn't horrible yet it wasn't great but for the price that you're paying, I would definitely expect better.I was sitting at the bar with my girlfriend and there was nowhere to store our belongings (jacket or bag) and we ended up throwing it on top of the bar. If there was a place to put it, we we're not advised.Servers seemed more focused on the take out orders rather than the people sitting inside the restaurant.
Loved the tofu penang, super delicious & tasted even better the next day as leftovers! The papaya salad was great, but i think crushed peanuts would’ve been way better than the whole. Mango sticky rice was divine.Cute spot & loads of vegan & vegetarian options (you just have to ask what they can do!)I do think service was slightly lacking & could’ve been more attentive, but would definitely go back!
I was on Commercial Drive and I needed to find some takeout for dinner. I checked what was well rated on Yelp and found Kin Kao. I placed an order by phone and was told it would be about 20 min. I parked right it front and waited the full 20 min before I went in. They said it would take another 10min. It was actually another 20 min, so a total of 40min to prepare my order. Once I got my order I went straight home. This is what I thought about the dishes: - Chicken Satay - OK. As far as Thai places go I thought it was average tasting. Good size but also more expensive too. - Crispy Chicken Skin - OK. Had the potential to be very good, but I thought the batch we got was over-fried so it had that dried-out burnt taste. - Deep Fried Pork Belly - Good. Simple but well executed. Crisp but not tough. - Crispy Rice Salad - Good. But wondering if would’ve better if eaten fresh because the rice wasn’t crispy by the time I got home. Great flavours. - Pad Thai - Good. More authentic using tamarind, not that weird red stuff. Service was nice, but they underestimated how long it would take to prepare. Had to pay extra parking for the extra wait. Overall, not bad. The wait put me off a bit. For takeout, it was not bad. Could’ve been possibly better if dined in.
I have been in search of great Thai fried rice, and when I tried it at Kin Kao, it was very delicious and by far one of my favourites. However, soon after I finished my meal, I had really bad stomach pain and diarrhea which is something I rarely experience when I eat out. Not sure if it was an ingredient that affected me, or perhaps unsanitary conditions in the handling of the food. Too bad.
Checked out their new sister restaurant SONG a few weeks back and LOVED IT! Naturally, I had to try out the original for myself. While Song is more "experimental" in their delivery and still authentic in flavours, KIN KAO is authentic Thai classic comfort. We had the Papaya Salad, Pad Thai Prawns, Red Curry Duck and Stirfry ThaiBasil with Eggplant. Everything was beautifully prepared, the flavours all stood out - BOLD and well balanced. The staff are knowledgable, friendly and fit their concept/space perfectly. Their drink menu also goes well with the food. We had a bottle of Scout Riesling and a few beers on tap as well. CANNOT WAIT TO COME BACK. Soooooo good!
This place use to have one of the best green curry. I must have ordered it over 40 - 50 times in the past. I ordered it last night and it was very watered down and pretty much had way too much chicken with beauty any eggplant or bamboo shoots and actual green curry. I huge step down from what it was all about before. Super sad to loose another spot from my list :( RIP If you like 75% of just chicken in your dish (huge peices) than this is the spot for you!
