Tried new spot for dinner. Happy Day Cafe, close to 7-11. Hong Kong style eats. Big portions and good price. Place was clean and staff friendly. We ordered sweet n sour pork, hainanese chicken, beef and bitter lemon and chow mean and beef noodles. Everything was great! Chow Mein was crispy exact way I like it. Had left overs because the portion was big. Would have taken better pictures too but was forgetful after taking a bit of the beef with the butter melon. I'm not a fan of bitter melon but the beef was excellent.Definitely a place to try!
Ordered the lobster dinner combo for take out. It was yummy. The salt and peppery squid was so tender and fresh. The halibut was liked by the parents so that was a very good sign. I would definitely order it again. The only issue Is the online website. It doesn’t allow you to choose a pick up time. Quite frustrating. They should really update the system! The next day we ordered their online breakfast combo. Egg, sausage, half a French toast, and Satay beef noodles. The dinner the night before was tastier.
We went here at tea time. No people were waiting outside, and we could have a table arranged once we arrived. The taste of the food was just so-so, but the portion was massive (For dine-in only, I tried take-out next time, and the size was much less than that for dine-in). Also, the milk tea here was excellent and tasted like those in Hong Kong. But the price was a little high too.
This food tasted fantastic!Portions were good for the prices and service was quick despite being fairly busy. Tv's had the news and sports so there was appeal for anyone, and the tea was tasty.I ordered soup and deep fried squid and they were very filling in a good way, I ate a lot before I was actually full and everything was cooked and seasoned the right amount
Go with the popular HK cafe dishes and you usually can't go wrong. Most menu items come with a drink combo.
A very busy and typical HK-style cafe. Been here in the past and they do have some good dishes (as well as some that aren't).Dropped by for breakfast one day and it was hopping with all the tables full up.They offer a variety of dishes including the unbelievably good ponytails bun BLT. Amazingly crispy bacon and a good overall BLT (although a bit heavy-handed with the mayo).Congee was ok. But the steamed beef rice roll was a bit too basic for my liking.
Classic HK cafe with authentic customer service. They forgot my order and so I asked that if the kitchen had not started making mine, can I just cancel it as most party members were done eating already. They said they cannot cancel it since I already got the drink that came along with the meal. I felt like they could've been more flexible as the drink seem so minor and now everyone has to wait for my dish to come.I ordered Fish fillet with Eggplant with rice, and unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The fish fillet did not taste fresh and there were only few eggplants in the dish. Sad to say that I would have actually given them a higher rating if I had not tasted this dish.Sizzling Steaks Combo (beef, chicken, sausage, fish fillet) - good value for the amount of food, also came with soup and toast. Great choice for those who loves meat and protein.Braised pork belly: very tasty and melts in your mouth. However, this may be a seasonal dish as it was separate from the menu. Waited over 20 min for this dish but that was shown on the poster.I would say most of their dishes meet HK cafe standards, just a few dishes that are off. Stick with the popular ones and mainstream ones, and you'd probably be safe.
Delicious ox tongue tomato spaghetti! Creamy smooth congee. Homestyle soups. All the standard HK favorites. The place to go to for Hong Kong Cafe delights and consistently very good food.
Today I went to Happy Day cafe with my family for a quick brunch. Unfortunately, we were left with a deeply unsatisfying experience. With their sky-high prices and tiny portions, you're guaranteed to leave disappointed and wishing you had gone somewhere else instead.I had the Sausage, Egg, and French Toast combo (B) along with a Satay Beef Noodle combo (D). I thought it would be impossible to ruin a sausage, but they did. It was blanched, barely hot, and had no flavour. The Satay noodle was bland and had 3 tiny strips of chewy beef.My fiance had a Crunchy Top Bun (pineapple bun) combo. The top was not crunchy and the bun was stale. They did not toast or heat up the pineapple bun before sliding in the slice of butter. My sister had the Chinese Donut and Congee combo. The donut was doughy and had only 6 pieces(!!), And the congee was over salted. My mom had the Tomato and Egg Macaroni combo and while there was plenty of egg, the bowl was littered with onions to make the bowl look more"full". The tomato broth was really onion broth with egg and macaroni. We spent around $60 including tips for one of the most disappointing meals I've ever had. I would never back here ever again. I suggest you avoid this place like the plague. The only redeeming factor was the HK style French toast. It had a solid amount of the kaya spread, and the toast itself was crispy.
I live in the neighbourhood and it's great to have a resto like this. Really appreciate the nice decor, especially roomy banquette seating. Also like the early opening; it's one of the few places offering a nice breakfast at 7:30. Food is predictably great.5/5: lobster, peking duck, ling cod, twice cooked pork, chicken/pork chow mein, pork vermicelli, beef congee, fried wontons, enoki+broccoli, silken tofu.As you can see from the photos, I'm obsessed with the steamed rice roll with minced beef. It is the best ever. Of mythical proportions, with a translucent, silky rice layer and perfectly flavoured and tender beef. I cannot eat this elsewhere as it will be disappointing.4/5: other beef dishes (bitter melon, rice noodles, black bean chow mein) which are incrediby tender, fish noodle soup, and deep fried fish.Only downside were the pre-pandemic lineups.
