It gets 2 stars only because the cake part was actually edible. I ordered a chocolate trio cake that’s supposed to have ovaltine taste but I can’t taste anything ovaltine. What’s worse, I ordered this cake for my husband’s birthday specifically asking for a fondant topper of my dog. I even sent them a picture of the fondant topper I wanted. They replied they can do an edible print topper, but didn’t say they don’t do fondant anymore, despite sending me sample cake pictures it’s fondant toppers. I didn’t catch in the email that they are to make an edible print topper instead. Charged me $15 extra for the “edible print” topper. Picked up the cake and didn’t see any fondant topper but a print that’s just stuck on cardboard. I asked why isn’t it a fondant, they told me they stopped making fondant a long time ago (but the pictures they sent me had fondant toppers!) Well it’s on me that I didn’t read their email carefully it did say “edible print” topper and not fondant, but I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed as it wasn’t something I expected. The time came to cut the cake, told my husband it’s an edible print. Took a bite and it’s just a lousy desk-jet printout of the picture I sent them stuck on a cardboard. That’s their version of an “edible” print topper? Am I supposed to eat paper? I was charged $15 extra for a print job that I could’ve done at home myself. Terrible! Definitely my first and last time ordering from here. Pure disappointment.
Oh let's take a minute and admire the cake. It was the most beautiful cake I had ever seen, and I still could not believe it was our wedding cake. The service and communication were good, delivery was on time, and the cake tasted better than we had expected. Our guests dropped out of the dance to get in line for it; that's how good the cake was. We picked the Vietnamese coffee flavour, btw. 200/10 recommend their wedding cake.
I am from New Jersey and have to order a cake for my cousin who is celebrating her birthday. I called them yesterday but no one answered. However, Pauline called me back. She was very gracious to help me with my order. She requested that I order online, and she will make sure that my cake will be delivered today. It was delivered as promised. My cousin loved the cake, and she said it was one of the best she had for a while. Thank you for making it a wonderful day for her, Buttermere P.
Ordered a birthday cake for our friend. $50 for a tiny tiny cake. On website discretion, it comes with gold leaf on the top. Our cake doesn’t have the gold leaf and the price is the same. Overpriced cake with an very ordinary taste. Super disappointed.
Great experience with this patisserie! Recommend to everyone with my eyes closed. Super easy order placement and next day pickup. Cake was well packed in a very nice box. Was it delicious - above and beyond! Thank you very much, Buttermere!
Edit:Buttermere reached out and offered me to buy something with 50% discount. I really appreciated that they wanted to make my experience with them better. I ordered the match lava cake and the cake was nice, not too sweet and the sponge was soft. I am happy with itI like to get desserts from the shop so I decided to order a cake online. The shop is far for me so I paid $12 for delivery. However, they didn’t have much detailed instructions on how the cake is delivered. On the day for delivery, I called the shop. The person that picked up sounded a bit annoyed and impatient. She told me the driver would come between 3:00-5:30pm. At 5:30 pm, I still had no idea where and when the cake delivery will happen. I had no way to contact the driver so I tried to contact the shop again. This time, no one picked up. I was getting worried because we have a celebration dinner at 6PM. By 5:40 PM, I finally got a text from the driver. He was lost and had to get my husband to meet him. The lack of communication was very unpleasant and unprofessional.Onto the cake itself, it was close to $70 for the 6’ Halfmoon cake. I found it a bit overpriced. The cake was a tad too sweet and the sponge was a bit hard and dry. The lychee rose flavour was good. Overall, my whole family didn’t enjoy it as much even though it was a beautiful cake.
Great little Patisserie place with good desserts and coffee.Desserts are on the slightly pricier side but are quite unique.
Received these as a gift!Packaging / presentation - 10Flavour - 8Price - 3Definitely a beautiful thought! But save your money. Would like to try other products.
Aside from "disappointing," I don't really know what other adjective I can use to describe the order and pick up experience.I had originally pre-ordered the mooncake set (for pick up on Sept 18th) for a family order. A week before the 18th, my family dinner got moved to the 17th, so I immediately contacted Buttermere (albeit via IG) to ask if I could move the pick up date to the 17th. They said yes (yay!). I had to work on the 17th and wouldn't be able to get off before 4pm (pick up deadline), so I asked my brother to pick up the set in my place. He went around 1:30 on September 17th, and was told my order isn't available for pick up until the 18th and that they didn't have anymore for the 17th. Unfortunately, he had back-to-back meetings after, so he couldn't notify me until 4pm (the late notification about the issue is obviously not Buttermere's fault). When I heard, I tried contacting Buttermere again (also via IG, because it had a record of our conversation) and scrounged to find a last minute replacement dessert for the family dinner. After a while, I finally heard back and was met with an "oops" attitude response ending with a teary smiley face. I was already pretty disappointed about the mistake, but to also receive such an irresponsible and unprofessional response left a horrible taste in my mouth.I went to go pick up the set today (18th), and was shocked with another surprise - I only received 5 out of the 6 flavours... You know what though? At least they look cute, and even with one missing, I'm still able to try most of the flavours.Taste-wise, the mooncakes are mediocre at best - not at all the snowy mooncake texture Buttermere had promoted the set to be. Snowy mooncakes have a soft and pillowy shell (almost like a mochi) and a smooth fragrant filling. These were not at all like that. They had a very gummy shell and a heavy but bland filling (except for the matcha/redbean and the black sesame with hazelnut flavours - those fillings were pretty good).Overall, between the wrong pick up date, the missing mooncake, and the mediocre taste, I'm not sure that I would recommend Buttermere to anyone, let alone order from them again myself. That being said though, their previous chouxpi collaboration with Mijune Pak was amazing, so maybe they're a hit or miss kind of bakery.
Lovely roll cakes! First try was a gift from a friend, where I loved it so much! Returned to get more for myself and a family friend!! Still awesome!!
