Seriously underrated! It's 1 of the 4 restaurants that left an impression on me after visiting Vancouver recently. We ordered 4 different items and I found all of them to be good and I didn't even have an appetite to eat beforehand.Very reasonable price and kind hearted staffs.
Best Hong Kong Cafe/Cha Chaan Teng in Vancouver hands down. I've been coming to BT for over 14 years since they opened and replaced Sun Fat Cafe (which was also a fantastic HK mom and pop cafe) in 2008. Since day 1, their consistency with the quality of foodand service has never dipped down. Their prices are extremely fair, as are their portions. The place is also incredibly sanitary, which is a bonus as normally HK cafes aren't usually known for this. Some must tries here are their baked spaghetti with meat sauce, satay pork Toro with hor fun, or their mix and match steak set. Get the borscht if its the daily soup, it's the best in town.
For the price and portion of food in these times of high inflation, this HK restaurant is pretty well priced and portions are good. Have been ordering takeout from here for awhile now and the food standard/quality has been decent.Sometimes the flavouring may be a bit too light or not enough sauce but can't complain for the price you pay for the meal. For example: My Baked Pork Chop with Noodles was not very sauce-y so half way through my meal the noodles got a bit dry. The pork patty are ones you get from the grocery store (boneless) but the overall dish was still decent.Scrambled Egg Prawn with Rice Noodle smelt great and a very nice portion for less than $15. The dish lacked a bit of flavour but adding some white pepper enhances the overall taste. The shrimp was seasoned well.I have tried other dishes like the Baked Curry Chicken on Rice (no picture) which is my favourite thus far. There are some peppers, onions, potatoes and the chicken is not the frozen kind. Curry flavour was great and aromatic.
Long time customer but will not go again . Waitress very rude. Politely asked if we could change seating over to the booth side but was told it was reserved. I said ok next time should I call to reserve but was told only available for certain customers. I asked what do you mean? Do I have to be a VIP and she said yes and started to angrily lecture me. I said you must be having a bad day and she said yes I am. I just walked out. If you are having a bad day please don’t take it out on your customers.
One of my favorite place in Van for HongKong style Breakfast and Baked Pork Chop w/ rice. Even it got me a bad stomach one time, still going at least once a month.
TLDR; Waitresses are incredibly rude. Will not be coming back.My family and I have been frequently coming here for the past few months. However, this will be the last time we visit until they change their staffing. When we arrived today, there were 3 groups waiting outside already, I walked in and put down my name with one of the waitresses. We waited outside for 20 minutes and noticed a group that came after us got seated before us. We mentioned it to the waitress but got quickly seated anyway. When we sat down, another waitress with the ponytail came by to tell us that she never saw me walk in to put our name down, and that the other waitress doesn't remember either. She also said that they do not come outside to take names of people who are waiting outside. Not sure why they think anyone would stand outside in 4 degree weather mindlessly waiting for a table without ever putting their name down. I understand servers can forget but to purposely come to our table to insinuate that we were lying about coming in just to get a table is ridiculous. Before confrontation, if the waitresses are forgetful, they have a Wyze camera pointing at the entrance, I would recommend checking to see if I actually walked in before coming to tell me that I never did.My family and I then ordered two dishes. The first dish was a noodle soup, so we asked the same waitress that accused us of not putting down our name for some hot chilly oil. It arrives, and then our second dish comes. We realized for our second dish that we would like to have some hot sauce with it. So we politely ask, the waitress has the audacity to ask if next time we could ask her all at once to get everything we need. We weren't purposely trying to ask the waitress to serve us twice, but to have the waitress call us out is unacceptable. The waitresses there are rude and hasty. Perhaps it's time to change jobs if they're so unhappy working there.
I ordered four dishes through the Uber Eats, the food portion is very good but the price is a little higher than the regular menu because of Uber, also I got a discount by using the apps so it’s okay, nothing to lose. The satay toro is tasty and the prawns they give are more than I expected, the scallops fried rice is delicious, not too oily, the beef brisket is not spicy enough, overall it’s so so according to the quality and quantity.I will order again if they still have the discount otherwise……
The food was bland and the waitresses were very rude to my family. We paid for our food and my parents stepped out first. When one of the waitresses arrived at my table to clean up, she counted the tips we left and told me that what we gave in tips was not enough. The waitress stopped me from leaving and I felt so cornered. I did not have any cash on me because my parents paid so she told me to go get my mom and come back to give her more money because we needed to give her 2 more dollars to make it 15%.On top of that, the waitresses only checked my family's vaccination IDs and not others around us. Leaving us wondering how consistent and safe their COVID procedures are.Super traumatizing and terrible experience. I will not go back again.
My go-to HK cafe spot. Cash only. Great service, in Canto and in English. Recently went on a Thursday night near closing and the server was still patient and helpful with our table of 6. Portions are generous if you go with the full size (rather than get the drink)Recommendations:Guk ju pa fan (baked pork in tomato sauce): it’s so delicious and satisfying. The tomato sauce is tangy sweet, which helps cut through that fat of the fried pork cutlet and cheese. Rice balances it out. Full of flavour and great texturesChicken fried rice noodle - chicken is perfectly tender and full of umami. It’s balanced with the rice noodles and baby bok choyAny of their chow mein - it’s super crispy, which is exactly what I want in a chow mein. Great stapleChoose your sides (1 to 3): Ox tongue, pork loin, and sausage are all excellent choices. I usually have it with the peppercorn sauce. So satisfying. This is a great one to have on your ownYin yang baked rice: it’s got half cream sauce and half tomato sauce baked with rice, protein, and cheese. Great to order if you have a small table
Hidden gem alert! One of the best Hong Kong style café and very reasonable prices. I’ve been a more than 5 times, and I’m pretty impressed each time with the portions and authentic flavours. Finally got around to writing a review. Service is kind of meh, and their English isn’t great but that shouldn’t stop you from coming! I usually get take out anyways. I think it is cash & debit ONLY.My order:Satay Flat Noodle with Pork Neck $12.95 – I swapped out the flat noodle with regular chow mein noodles for that extra crunch. Very nice satay flavour, and there are some large slices of fatty pork neck. Comes with some onions and green peppers too. Sauce to noodle ratio was also good.Baked Portuguese Rice (Chicken) $11.50 – I always order this. You can get pork instead if you'd like. This is a coconut curry rice dish that is baked (so it does take a bit longer to make) with shredded coconut on top for some added flavour/texture. It’s a good creaminess and comes with a good portion of sliced chicken steak. Rice to sauce ratio is also perfect.HK Style Milk Tea & Yuen Yeung (HK Milk Tea & Coffee): FREE with the dishes. Super strong and authentic flavours.2 dishes and 2 drinks came to $25.67 after tax.
