ordered the C7 pork jowl and preserved vegetable rice bowl. Spectacular! Crispy brown bits of rice from the clay pot, perfect ratio of tender pork and veg, perfectly seasoned, generous portions. Amazing food.
I'm not sure why, but I believe this establishment deserves more recognition. We came here by chance because the Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba - Kerrisdale was full so went next-door to try this cafe style restaurant.Instead of the famous Rice Pot, we ordered Hainanese Chicken Rice and Fried Pork Noodles. They had a simple presentation but the right serving. Soup and coffee were also served to accompany our meals. While the dishes were simple, they were light and tasty. Some of you may be unaware of the significance of this. Most Chinese restaurants in Vancouver are either overly salty, overly spicy, or both. Rarely do I come across a restaurant that excels at bringing the flavours and freshness of the food.Did I say the price is reasonable as well? When we don't feel like cooking, we might order takeout from this small, nothing fancy, but very clean cafe-style restaurant.Yes, I realise the grammar above is incorrect. However, supporting great vendors does.
Such a kind lady ? the rice pot (salted egg with pork cake) was delicious??The portions are super large for the price and everything tasted authentic !
Super delicious clay pots! The owner is a couple and are so kind and welcoming
Ny friend recommended this place for hot rice pots. At first, I thought the pot was too shallow, but after eating it down to the last crispy grains at the bottom, I realized it was the perfect portion size. I loved it! The chicken and pork spareribs were so juicy and tender. There were also a few pieces of sliced Chinese sausage and some greens. I especially liked that the pot remained so hot until the end and all the rice at the bottom and sides got crispy. The price was reasonable ($15) and the server was friendly and patient. It’s a small place and it’ll be cash or debit if the bill is under $20.
Finally found a resto that makes clay pot rice — and it’s their specialty too! I got the first item on their clay pot menu list, which is the Pork rib, Chicken, and Chinese sausage Clay Pot Rice. The dish comes unseasoned, but they provide you with a bottle of soy sauce so that you can add it to your taste ? As you pour the soy sauce, you’ll hear the crackling sounds of clay pot. Mix around the sauce together with the rice and start eating from the middle. At the end, you’ll be rewarded with crispy rice from the edges of the clay pot. Oh, and the dish comes with a bowl of bone broth soup full of umami — perfect with the clay pot rice. You’re also served a cup of warm tea if it all gets too salty. I’ll definitely be back soon!
Good solid noodle soup and oven baked rice dishes. Authentic and good value. Ran by friendly family. Great goto spot in Kerrisdale.
We came to this Chinese restaurant for dinner last week. Tried the tomato fish egg noodles soup and fish cake ,chicken egg vermicelli based laksa soup. Both the dishes were of generous proportions, and tasted good. Cost of each dish was roughly 13$.
Their clay pot rice is REALLY good. Friendly auntie who simply takes your order, good food that comes out at a reasonable speed (clay pot takes a bit longer of course) and the drinks are simple, no-nonsense and great. High recommend :)
I ordered beef brisket rice yesterday over the phone. I went to pick up the food at the restaurant and the old lady told me that they don't take card payment. My order was $15.25. I had to run home in the cold weather to get the cash and run back to the restaurant. Today I just learned that a colleague who ordered the same way (over the phone) and his order was less expensive than mine but was allowed to use card. I am appalled by this double standard and mistreatment that I received. In this country, if you have rule, you have to apply it to everyone and not treat people differently. I was very respectful btw so I felt like this was not right.Reply: my friend ordered something and it is even less expensive than mine and he was allowed to pay by credit card. I saw his card so I know.
