A fabulous meal atmosphere! Follow the horse racing!
We had a fabulous breakfast here! We don't really follow horse racing but really enjoyed our meal here. Generous portions, reasonable prices, fresh food, and clean surrounding! Plus friendly staff make this pub worth the drive.
This place is a little hideaway from the Pacific Border Crossing just off 176th. Deceiving looks, as is always looked tiny to me from the front(It's pretty spacious). It's like half restaurant, half bar as when you walk in there are booths down one side and a bar with stools down the other. Our waitress was super friendly and accommodating. We had brunch and it was quick and the food was good. The only reason for the four star rating was that although my wife told the server that we were sharing a meal, we did not ask for it to be split into two, it was and we were charged 2$ for a"split plate.A minor issue but with today's price it was still irritating. As you might have guessed from the name of this place it is focused on horse betting. There is a kiosk on each table where you can place a bet and watch the races, and tvs at the bar as well as a booth at the back where you can place wagers. You need an account at HPI Bet in order to wager.A good but not great experience at the Derby....
I was intrigued as I did my homework on this place using Google Reviews, noticing a small handful of 1-star ratings amongst MANY 4&5 ⭐️ reviews. I quickly realized it was 4 or 5 people griping about the fact that this restaurant was following the Covid Safety protocols. Had to laugh when I noticed that all 4 of these people submitted their negative review at the same time, and then all rated each other’s review as ‘helpful’ ?. This actually inspired me to give ‘The Derby’ a shot for my lunch - and I can tell you that I was thoroughly impressed !! The sandwich I had was top-notch, and the soup was delicious (and hot!). I personally like my fries crispier, but I was so impressed with the rest of the food, the price, and the obvious efforts in place to keep me safe, yet not inconvenienced - I couldn’t knock any stars off !!To any anti-mandate people out there who won’t go into a restaurant that follows the rules, I highly recommend you secretly get take-out from here, and enjoy!!
Always a pleasant experience. Great folks& food:)
We had a short visit a while ago and the menu looked good so we returned recently. I'm a pizza fan and tried their Trifecta Pizza which is all meat. It was fabulous. The best pizza since we arrived in BC last month. My wife had the seafood wrap which she raved about. The waitresses are friendly and efficient.
Heard they were good for pizza and I'm a pizza lover. They were right. Great pizza named after a race track. The Derby is a restaurant that caters to horse racing clientele. Don't try to get in on Saturdays without a reservation. Big day for people to bet on the many racetracks they monitor. Service is top-notch, Reduced hours due to staffing but worth the early dining experience.
Excellent food and excellent service! There was even a group of anti vaxers screaming at the front and the servers handled it very well. GO HERE :)!
Love this place for brunch and horse racing on Saturday!
Excellent food, I have been coming here for years with my family and I applaud the clean and comfortable atmosphere which promotes a feeling of safety when dining. As an immunocompromised person, I commend businesses such as this one who have looked out for their more vulnerable patrons by striving for a safe venue. One of the best restaurants in Langley hands-down. A lot of the other reviews seem to believe that dining in a restaurant is a human right. A restaurant would kick you out for not wearing shoes or for not having a shirt and they can kick you out for not bothering to vaccinate and thereby endangering others. Eating in a restaurant is NOT a right, it is a privilege. I am grateful that delicious and ethically run businesses such as the Derby offer top-notch service and food.
