Sure there are places that offer better pricing, but this place has one of the best XLBs in terms of quality of ingredients and the thinness of the skin. This is one of those places where you can tell they put time and quality into their food. Even in their hot and sour soup, everything is neat and thinly sliced to precision.Taste wise, I do enjoy their food, which some have mentioned, has a bit of a hybrid taste to it. It’s definitely one of the go to Shanghai places in Richmond though, so get a reservation or go early. They have their own parking lot, which is nice, but the spots are narrow. Be careful. This is definitely more of an upscale style Chinese restaurant so you will be paying a premium for the service and the environment. But this place has been around for a long time, they’re definitely doing something right and it all starts with the quality and taste of their food.

My favourite Shanghai restaurant in Richmond BC!If you love the steamed buns (xiao long bao) or fried buns (sheng jian bao), this is a must-go place! The meat buns are made fresh, on site everyday, you can taste the juiciness in these meat buns. All their food is pretty decent, some are slightly better than others, but honestly all are above average. The location is convenient, and dining hall nice and clean. Staff is quick and courteous. We walked out of there very satifised.Recommend!

We are always here for their Peking duck. A little pricey. But that’s ok when the food is always consistent and service is pretty good for a Chinese restaurant.

Food was not bad, the flavours were mostly pretty good except the pork belly over mustard (wasn’t stewed long enough) and the fried rice was a bit plain. Overall experience was pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant. Expect higher than average prices cause this place is a bit “fancy”. They serve fancy seafood items for $$$.

Pricey but good! The XLB so juicy and the skin thin. Love the pork wrap and pan fried buns. The vinegar spareribs were a bit tough but the flavour is there. My mom makes it better tho. There was some small confusion with the pan seared buns we ordered but glad that we were able to sort it out. The thing with Chinese restaurants even if they screw up they want you to just accept it. After being firm that we did not order what they were trying to serve us, they then went and remade the correct item for us.

Shanghai River is a place we visit regularly for special occasion dinners. It's located on No3 road across the street, North of Richmond Centre mall. The food here is done very well and spot on. We never had any complaints from the numerous visits.Prices are quite reasonable here. They have a semi open kitchen for you to see the kitchen staff making dumplings too.The staff here are friendly and efficient. There is ample free parking too.

Tasty dishes, on the expensive side. Quite busy. Menu is promising and would like to try their pan fried dumplings.

We ordered 9 dishes for a table of 5 with total price of $30/person! To me their taste is more of a mix of Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisines which is definitely not a bad thing. Wouldn’t say Shanghai cuisines is my go to but this place has change my thoughts, such tasty food with fair price.

Just enjoyed a super delicious supper at this wonderful restaurant. My fish and meat dishes were excellent and my wife’s vegetarian dumplings were very yummy. The spring rolls were the best I have eaten for a longtime. All reasonably priced and supported with excellent service. Highly recommended

Shanghai food has always just been comfort food for me and thus I don’t regularly go to Shanghai River that often (3x past 5 years) - it’s just a bit too expensive for my rather pedestrian taste. Oops! But relatives from the states wants to have good Shanghai food, so of course not much choice but to head here as their food IS great! We didn’t order any fancy/expensive items as it IS a family dinner and we all just wanted good solid Shanghai food! And we were not disappointed - xiao long bao nearly as good as Ding Tai Fung, not overly fat stewed pork belly in yummy sauce that’s wonderful on rice, boneless drunken chicken with that “just right” taste, korfu (sweet, savoury braised gluten), west lake beef soup, etc - all good and satisfying. And if you want to view the whole menu, use your phone to scan the QR code I have posted - and it will give you a good overview of their quite extensive menu. Happy choosin’ and eatin’!!
