I come here regularly with my family, and a solid place for ramen and dipping style ramen as well if you’re looking for that. Appetizer options are limited if you’re looking for some ramen alternatives, but still taste good. Parking can be a little challenging in the area however, unless the other businesses in the area are closed so that you can use their spots after hours.
Been visiting Sanpoutei here and there for a few years now, besides the prices changing due to inflation here and there, the quality of their ramen has been very consistent. The one thing that I cannot find at other ramen places is their Niigita shoyu ramen, it's a clearer broth, and made with anchovies and bonito from what I can taste, and you cannot find this anywhere else from places like, Motomachi, Santouka, Kintaro or Kokoro, just to name a few.Another thing I really appreciate, is the noodle consistency. It's thicker compared to other places and the torched chashu is a nice touch.I don't really care much for the other appetizers, as they are quiet pricey for the portion and tastes kinda average.
Was given the wrong order but was still expected to pay for it. Never did get my original order. Service was slow to non-existent. Soup was lacking in flavor and way too greasy. Had to flag down multiple people to get the bill and it was way overpriced. You can get much better ramen for less price. Because of their poor service and not even receiving what I ordered, I left a reduced tip of 5%. The server got mad and asked the entire table why I had to be like this to her and why I left her such a bad tip. I've never been confronted by a server unprofessionally. I asked if I can speak with a manager and she said no. Parking is impossible here as well.
Not very friendly. Food too salty.
Nowhere on their menu or in the restaurant does it say there is a minimum order per person. We went in NOT at peak hours. One of our party has severe allergies and was not comfortable with ordering food. Waitress named Kumiko was very snappy and rude. The food is not great. $8 for 4 pieces of chicken drenched in fish sauce to hide the bad taste of the chicken. We all got Tsukemen - some got spicy tsukemen. All of us felt that it wasn't as flavourful. Very underwhelming. The atmosphere is nice, very spacious and bright.overall, bad food and bad service. Many other ramen places in richmond that are much much better.
Probably the most delicious ramen I've had in Canada. However, be prepared to spend a lot of money. We went in as a group of four and had a bill of nearly $200. Wow! That's three or four times what you would pay in Japan.
Efficient. Clean.Food is delicious and not greasy.
The grilled chasu has a nice Smokey charcoal aroma. The egg has light marinated flavour. The shoyu broth is very refreshing and has a nice dashi flavour. The tori broth has a rich chicken broth flavour. The agedashi is really nice— the dashi broth adds lots of flavour.
Took my parents out dinner for their Anniversary since they want ramen. Chicken karage portion was really small for its price. We waited 40 minutes for the ramen, a family that arrived the same time got their food way ahead of us, then another group came after around 8 and got their food the same time as our food arrived. Portion was not as much as other ramen places in Richmond. They close at 8:30 and I only have 10-15 minutes left to finish. My parent's broth was warm and noodles were soggy. For the almost $15-$20 price per ramen I probably would not come back here for the time being. Disappointing and not worth what I paid for our dinner
Been here a few times since opening day. Very good soup base! Better than the other ramen places in Richmond. Just wish the amount of noodles and meat were a bit more. They should have a option of either small or large size. Also, very quick waitresses too which is lacking in a lot of restaurants for awhile now. Repeat customer all in all ?
