The food was really good! I got the assorted katsu set with pork, and their serving is huge. My friends and I enjoyed being here. We will definitely be back again.
We came here for opening at lunch 12noon. The staff are friendly, attentive and courteous. They have a small menu which is not a bad thing at all. They focus on Katsu as the name suggests. They do it exceptionally well. We ordered the Assorted Katsu set which includes, pork loin, cheese and tiger prawn. It comes with finely shredded cabbage, rice and a variety of sauces and spices. The meal came hot and beautifully prepared. This is small space so expect to wait if you come at the peak times. I've come here every year with my son on or around my birthday, June. I highly recommend this place. Good food great staff and reasonable pricing. Itadakimas.
Wait for about 20 minutes and be seated, quite limited seat numbers.I ordered assorted pork Katsu. The highlight is the apple onion sauce for cabbage salad.Soup and rice are decent. The katsu itself is a little bit weird in terms of the texture. It’s not like the usual katsu we’ll had but instead it’s more like the meatball texture, maybe they hit the meat many times to create this cluster texture, but not a fan of it.The crust is excellent and pretty crispy. And the shrimp katsu taste awesome as well. The tonkotsu sauce btw is too heavy for me, adding wasabi into it won’t help at all. And the sesame provided doesn’t comes with a grinder, though we have limited aroma of sesame.
I was blown away by the quality of this hidden restaurant’s katsu! I ordered the assorted tonkatsu set that came with pork, cheese, and ebi katsu! It also comes with miso soup, pickled radish and cucumber, rice, and shredded cabbage. Japanese style sets are really well done here. All of the sauces were delicious and my favourite part was getting refill after refill of shredded cabbage. I highly recommend this place for its food, atmosphere, and experience!
Never been a fan of kastus so it's a surprise when my family recommended that I visit this place with them.Wow. This place just changed my view on katsus. I got the regular Chicken katsu set. My other family got the the Tonkatsu set and another got the Cheese katsu set. They were all fresh, juicy and so flavorful.I don't like katsus I'm definitely bringing my friends and family here on other occasions.
I've gotten katsu take out from Katsu San several times (eating it as soon as it's ready is key!) but I finally dined in! Tried the assorted tonkatsu and chicken sets. Their katsu is my favourite in the lower mainland. Their coating is light and crispy!Loved dipping the salt with the cheese. I love their tsukemono and all their condiments! (Their ramen is lovely too but that review is for another day :) )Getting on the waiting list is easy, too. Give them your name and phone number and you get a text when your table is just about ready.
Fried food tends to make everything better, but there are subtle quality differences too. The amount of oil leftover, to the crisp, flavor, and amount of batter to the contents within. To that end, this place has great Katsu! Have not tried ramen but Katsu is in the name. For me, the fry to content ratio is bang on. Great crisp, flavor, and with minimal excess oil. Chicken pieces are moist, shrimp (ebi) is not rubbery, and the standout was the cheese because sometimes cheese with an extra fry can become too much of a heart stopper. They do it well with the richness of the cheese and couples with salty dipping sauces and pickles sides it helps cut through a lot of the main Katsu attractions. If you like fried food and want to enjoy a varied experience with different channels, the assorted katsu will give a really rewarding varied experience worth that price tag especially compared to similarly touted katsu places like Saboten.
They don't let you book reservations for dinner oftentimes due to popularity. Sauce for the Katsu is Korean-style rather than the more sour Japanese-style (I like both). Servers are SUPER friendly and nice, and you get unlimited miso soup/rice/salad! Definitely recommend going.
Excellent food with every aspect meticulously perfected. Ongoing mentality of continuous improvement. Very friendly service where they ask your name and then proceed to call you by name throughout your dining experience. I am a regular here and hope to be for a long time.
Tried their assorted chicken katsu set instead of their pork this time and was very impressed with how tender the chicken was. Delicious and very cleanly fried. Did not feel too oily at all. Their salad dressings are one of my favourites, would definitely would buy a bottle if they had some on sale!Lots of parking in the square across, and sometimes in the restaurant back. They will put your name down on the waiting list and then text you when your table is ready. We didn't wait too long as we came on a weekday lunch. Will definitely visit again, and their service is also some of the best.
