The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice enough with some cozey decor. They also have air-conditioning which is quiet nice. Service is excelent as wait staff are polite and efficient, but not overbearing. Satay takes about 10 minutes to arive from order to table. The satay is slightly sweet and savoury, tender, and seasoned just right for my taste. It pairs beautifully with the peanut sauce, red onion, and cucumber that is given. Nasi goreng ayam took thirteen minutes from order to table. The rice was perfectly savoury, and smokey. The rice was flakey without being hard, and pairs very nicely with the funkeyness of the fish paste and the nuttines of the fries anchovies. The fried chicken served with the rice is very tender and juicey, not too salty and not too greasy. It tastes lightly of curry and black pepper while being very savoury.Overall I would say that this establishment is worth a visit if your in town as it does nothing wrong, and a lot of things right.
Good food and service for lunch.Reserved this place via Google Maps Reserva a Table option and reconfirmed before arrival. They answered my call pretty quick so good service on that end.The parking lot was pretty big but a large puddle occupied a few spots. I did manage to get a spot though. The dining room was nice and seating was either a small table for 2 or booths for up to 6. Staff were really nice and attentive. We came for the Hainanese Chicken Rice but I liked the sound of Special Curry Rice (curried chicken with braised pork belly). The Satay skewers looked good too. We also ordered the stir fried eggplant for the table which was really tasty. Those sensitive to MSG should take note that I had a slightly dry mouth and felt slightly tired after lunch. So there was probably a small amount in either the curry or the eggplant dishes. The curry came first and amazingly fast (like maybe around 5min)! Then the skewers and then the H Chicken Rice. Eggplant came last but was soon after the last chicken rice.Would definitely recommend this place for weekday lunch. Although we were there for more than an hour, that was mainly our not being quick about ordering and then chatting after eating.
I've only ever had take out from the Vancouver location, so I was really excited to try and dine in (wanted to try a few months ago but the restrictions only allowed for take out). Got my usual order to share with my partner, beef rendang, Hainanese rice and roti canai. The beef was tender but the sauce was bit spicier than what we were used to from the other location (I like spice but my partner has less of a tolerance unfortunately). The roti was flaky, which I loved. Good portions and very hearty dishes. Ended up getting a second serving of rice because I just wanted to keep eating. Service was pretty quick and friendly. Not the biggest fan of the parking, but it's pretty accessible if you use transit. Clean and welcoming atmosphere inside.
Finally made it a point to try John 3:16 and so glad I did! They take reservations too. Very limited parking outside and with neighboring construction going on you may end up with pay street parking a 5 minute walk away like I did. Once inside, the dining room is warmly decorated and aromas of delicious Malaysian cuisine hit hard.Food:Roti canai is a must-have, so pliable with just the right amount of crisp and fresh flavour.Satay beef and chicken skewers were excellent.Nyonya Pie Tee is like a light biscuit cup around a fresh spring roll and quite fun.Rojak- sorry not so much our table of 4 tried it but it wasn't for us. Picture hoisin sauce drizzled on non-sweet pineapple and jicama.Beef rendang, nice flavor blend of this Malaysian curry however we did agree it needed to have been served hotter.Char Koay Teow: good filler dish similar to beef chow fun. I'd go for something more unique next time.Eggplant main: excellentGarlic green beans: fine.My uncle and aunt loved their iced and hot malaysian coffees in the end too.Great service, atmosphere, prices, and food selection. Would come again!
I am EXTREMELY fussy about my Malaysian food and this place is only one of 3 places I've ever dined outside of Malaysia that makes the cut for me. A lot of "Malaysian" restaurants hang their reputation on getting chow keow teow right but then lack substance on their other dishes. John 3:16 actually makes a worthy roti canai and nasi lemak. Their asam laksa is also a commendable effort. I was sceptical but they made me a believer!
As a Malaysian, I would say this is the most authentic taste from Malaysia I can find in Vancouver and it was amazingly delicious. I was there a couple times and they never failed me! The service was superb and the restaurant were always full! Highly recommended to everyone who wish to have a good authentic food from Malaysia and make a reservation to make sure you get a seat ?? They also open a new branch at Broadway and I was there once, soooo good as well, make sure you check it out as well!!
8/10. Not at the DT Vancouver location but this Location is muy bueno!!! Must order ribs and I like their skewers. I like their flat noodles and fried rice. Don’t recommend the roasted chicken at the DT Vancouver location though. That’s probably a 5/10.. dry chicken.
Great restaurant. Good food. Decent price. Service was great. Plenty options for Malaysian food.
Roti and chicken are amazing. Many of durian desserts, but order early as there are limited quantities.
Delicious laksa and item R1. We forgot the real name but it's fried chicken, anchovies, beans with rice. The yam rolls were sweet but not too full in filling. We had that as an appetizer but I think it could be a dessert too. We were amazed by how much people were ordering to dine in and the same people ordering more to take out. Great service!
