It is a must when in Steveston! We visit Steveston often and just love the seafood restaurants there. For the Spot Prawns season this year, we made our journey, but this time, looking for something different. We googled and found CHJ and decided to have lunch there. Wow!!! Every dish was exceptionally prepared. We had the most delicious Spot Prawns. "The Trip to Taiwan - Formosa Platter" was outstanding. The Beef Noodle Soup was amazing. CHJ Bistro is "hidden" behind Britannia Brewing. But what a great find. Absolutely recommended when in Stevenston.
Customer service was excellent but the food quality was not as expected. The Nan-Gong platter was a sweet platter filled with sausages fish cake and fish balls and drizzled with Japanese mayo and sweet sauce. The deep fried patty mix was heavy on garlic and had a bit of everything like popcorn chicken squid pork blood cake etc.The fried rice was with pickle and marinated beef but it wasn’t boring. The tofu was the highlight for the lunch because it was crispy and tasty. All in all, the dishes are from Tainan and tend to be sweet. They were not bad in terms of the flavour but really nothing special.
Great? that found this traditional Taiwan cuisine in Stevenson Village ?. Staffs are super friendly ? and food is tasty ? and lots of choices. Oysters pancake must try lot of oysters and deep fried chicken ? pair with winter melons ? tea is the best . Great job ?? 5 ?review by Bella
Authentic Taiwanese street food that’s packed with flavor. Very friendly service from the attentive servers. Went there twice in two weeks and will definitely come back again!
Got some takeout and it was better than I thought. Nice Taiwanese spot in Steveston Village. We like how the food had flavour but not overly salty or seasoned. This did not leave us thirsty afterwards! The fried oysters were great!
Authentic Taiwanese restaurant little pack but with a very good taste. Love all the selections will come back for more food later
Fantastic Taiwan style food. Portions are large for the price. The picture is the herbal wine chicken soup.
Highly recommended! Tasty Taiwan cuisine and have lots of choices. Staffs are very friendly!
We were excited to visit CHJ because of all the great reviews. I was happy that they followed covid procedures checking vaccine card and ID, etc. Food wise, all the deep fried stuff was delicious and well made/ well seasoned. Our friend ordered beef noodle soup and he didn't get his meal until all of us were almost done with our food. We had to remind them and it seemed that they forgot about it. Noodles were soggy when arrived. Dumplings skin were soft and overcooked. We were fairly disappointed with the quality of certain food and service. The table behind us came after and had their food served first, paid and left while we were still waiting for our meal.
The menu items are hit or miss. Some are exactly how I remember them from Taiwan but some are far from it. The prices are also considered high, especially when it comes to the quality and the portion you're getting on some of the dishes. Even then, it was an enjoyable meal. I would still recommend it if you're really craving some Taiwanese food.
