The best restaurant for service excellence. Food is amazing, their presentation is awesome, the chef has carefully selected best ingredients available. However their service is top notch. Best in Canada.Waiters wear suits and white gloves. They service you from right side. Phenomenal knowledge of their food, drinks and ingredients. They provide very formal services that has extinct.I visited this place for our wedding anniversary and they signed a beautiful money tree origami card.If you want to have elevated dining experience where they make you feel like a true VIP, you must visit here. Highly recommended!!
It was located in a nice area I wad not familiar with. The decor was nice. At the start the service was great. There were only 3 tables. Unfortunately as it got busy, they completely forgot about us. The food was beautifully presented. The salmon seemed overdone. Maybe my expectations were just too high. I think calling some items a full course of the tasting menu was generous.
It was been a long time as Thai person who heard about this Fine Thai dining ; Baan Lao. And this birthday it perfect time to booked & spend experience time with our family. It was a great experience and right decision. All Thai foods which Chef Nutcha and services from Mr.John professional team provide was beyond whole my expectations. All chef selections : Amuse Bouche, Appetizers, Main dishes, To cleanse the plate, dessert and To Finish that includes 13 serves were right amount to fulfill your dinner.I would like to explain each meal to you all but I prefer you to surprise like me receiving.Foods from Baan Lao in my opinion like a Art from an artist Chef Nutcha, she represented Thai foods with menu that she like to tell stories from Thai taste in her signature. All ingredients were choosing by details, organic and concern about clients health before serving on the table. Moreover my husband and my sister choosing wine pairing. Another sister choosing Tea pairing that really rare for Restaurants to decide to do.They all so satisfied and enjoyed so much.Appreciated dessert birthday which surprise me. And personal thank you card from Baan Lao food and beverage team.If you looking for Thai fine cuisine, Thai taste from one of Authentic Thai chef, beyond service, Romantic place to complete your dinner with special time. Incredibly experience, amazing dishes, best Thai fine dining I’ve ever had in my life!!!! Chef Nutcha is truely talented & look forward to many more surprise dishes from her! Highly recommended, no other choice!!! ❤️
I love the personal touch that you offer to all your guests. From welcoming letters to each guests, with our names specified... to personal explanation and description about each dish served... to a pretty "Thank you" card to your diners, signed by your team, at the end of the meal. Also, I feel like I'm on a tour with a "tour guide", to explain to us what we see and eat. This is indeed a place worth coming if you want to express your love for the person you are with.
Came here with my wife for Valentine’s Day dinner and the food was great. Chef does a great job with her take on a number of Thai classics - the pad Thai being the most visually appealing interpretation I have ever seen. All the ingredients are fresh and food was rich in flavour. The only reason I did not give Baan Lao 5-stars is because I didn’t feel the service could keep up with the food. Yes, the servers introducing the food to us at the table were friend and super informative, but this was inconsistent with other front of house staff. When we first arrived, we had an extremely confusing conversation with the server asking us what we wanted to drink - regular water, or hot tea / thai iced tea. No indication was given for us to view the drinks menu so we just assumed that this was part of the prepaid experience. We asked for thai iced teas and later found out this was just a regular drink order. Had we known we would’ve just made a cocktail order to start. The food also took a long time to arrive, which can be expected with a tasting menu, but we were rarely asked if we wanted another drink, and with Covid it is far less convenient to engage a staff member. Last point on the drinks, once you order them they take a LONG time to arrive. So all around I don’t think Baan Lao is a bad experience. And if they can up their game on the front of house staff, this is an easy 5-stars.
Baan Lao for me is the pinnacle of a fine dining experience. I say it is an experience because that is what is it. It is not just a fancy place to have dinner. It puts the 'special' in special occasion. Exceptional is an understatement when describing this place. I can't even put into words on how to accurately paint this life changing dinner but I will do my best.Let's talk service; you would expect nothing less at an establishment like this and they do not disappoint. From the white glove service, freshly pressed linens, hot hand towels with the most decant scent of lemongrass essential oil to the personalized letter before our meal, you feel special. There's no better way to put it. When you think Michelin star restaurant, a Michelin star chef, you picture this. Chef Nutcha's culinary love and attention to detail translates into the food and you taste it. I couldn't help but keep picturing Baan Lao as the next feature on Netflix's Chef's table. (Yes, it is that amazing)Let's talk ambiance, the restaurant is simple yet sophisticated. Located a little ways away from the iconic Stevenson village in Richmond, right next to the water. It brings farm-to-table to an elevated status. This humble Chef's accolades can be found tucked away in the hallway that leads you to the restrooms. What takes center position are the elephant paintings commissioned by the establishment. Elephant paintings, painted by an elephant! The 2 giant light pendants disbursed the softest light and honestly made pictures look amazing. The bar was decked out and when they serve you your first two dishes the way they do, you'll feel like you're immersed into a Thailand getaway.Food. When I say that the pictures don't nearly do it justice, I am not exaggerating. Plating is one thing, but having each bite deliver a boat load of flavour is another. You can feel that the preset menu is well thought out and has a consistent yet surprising flow. I am no food reviewer by any means but this place deserves more than just your regular Google review. The presentation 10/10, taste 10/10, creativity 10/10, authenticity 10/10. You simply just have to experience this for yourself to come to the conclusion of whether the price justifies this whole package. For me, 100% hands down it does. I know that Thai food is commonly associated with cheap street food... Let Chef Nutcha and her staff change your mind here at Baan Lao.
We were here for our anniversary dinner and this was the best fine dining experience I have had in Vancouver. The chef with her credentials was tremendously humble , and showed much gratitude for her patrons. Her service team offered a warm , attentive and first class dining experience paired with authentic , bold flavours in a well thought out menu marked a very memorable dining experience. The wine and tea pairings added a fun, but approachable twist.Cheers to a female ethnic chef leading the charge in fine dining in Vancouver, it was a first class experience and we wish this restaurant much success for years to come.
What an incredible experience! Baan Lao truly took us through a culinary tour of Thailand.Fine Dining in Vancouver hasn’t looked this good in a long long time! So much thought went into every detail, right down to the rice which comes from the chefs family organic rice farm in Thailand. We had their signature 9 course menu which consisted of about 13 dishes. We first enjoythe Amuse Bouche which was called Maa Haaw. It was presented to us in the most beautiful of ways. You'll have to see it for yourself.Next we were given an array of Appetizers. Each one was simple and can be enjoyed in a bite or 2.We finished the appetizer portion of the meal with a palette cleanser they called Naam Dta Khrai Baitoey. It is basically an elixir but the flavours absolutely blew my mind. It's rare for me to be stopped in my tracks. From the first sip, to the last, all I can think of was literally "Oh My God!" It's odd for me to say this, but I would come back alone just for this. The mains were all outstanding. The one that I keep thinking back to is the Phat Thai Goong aka "Pad Thai." Their version doesn't have peanuts in it and I still can't believe this is the case. They wanted to accommodate those with peanut allergies and to be truly honest, I couldn't tell that this was peanutless. It is without a doubt, hands down the best Pad Thai I have ever had. I am officially ruined for Pad Thai because I will be thinking about this one for years to come. The presentation was beautiful, and the portion size was much larger than I expected. This is the other dish I will think about every time I come back, and believe me, we will 1000% be back soon, this time with friends in tow.The presentation of the dishes are beautiful, as you'll see in the images I've provided. The service was also excellent and the atmosphere felt exactly what I expect from a Michelin quality establishment. Of which, we have frequented many. One of the things I learned that I appreciated the most was that the Chef/Owner Nutcha Phanthoupheng imports her Thai rice from her families organic rice farm in Thailand. They have been making rice for over 100 years. The rice was outstanding! My wife is a chocolate fanatic, so usually desserts aren't her thing if they aren't using chocolate, but that said, she couldn't stop talking about the Glutenous rice dessert. I loved it too, but 1 day later, my wife is still talking about the dessert. At the end, the Chef came out and spoke to us and we had a pleasant chat. I always enjoy the moments I get to speak one on one with the chef.Baan Lao has been receiving rave reviews across the board from major publications to our regular locals. Please add mine to the growing number of people who have discovered this gem of a restaurant. We can’t wait to come back soon for the new menu! Congrats to the chef and the rest of your fantastic team!
What an experience it is to dine at Baan Lao! They were prompt to help me with reservations, their attention to detail was superb, and they were so accommodating. I had to have a few dishes well-done because of my pregnancy, but that did not affect the taste nor the experience. The restaurant itself is both refined but not pretentious. What's most memorable is the warm atmosphere of the staff: they were incredibly welcoming and we felt like family when we left. My husband highly recommends adding the wine pairing to dinner. Worth every penny and more!
