Excellent chips and beer! Stopped in for a snack and to quench thirst. The service was beyond excellent. Thanks and happy to recommend.
Its been a solid 15 years thay i have known of and gone to the Blackbear. Consistency is something this place has stand alone. No other local restaurant/pub in Van or N Van offers a menu this predictable, an always strong level of service and generally just excellent food quality. Locals abound, sports games all watchable here and indoor or year round outdoor. Thanks for sticking with what works BB. Nothing to fix here... Go there!
My wife and I had dinner and a drink here last night (June 3rd) and enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality but unfortunately not the food and drinks. My wife's whisky was fine but my Granville island honey lager (draft) tasted metallic which is usually an indication that the taps need cleaning. Alright, not a big deal breaker... But the food definitely left a bad taste in our mouth. We both ordered the fish Tacos, and I had fries while my wife had yam fries. The fish batter was so thick and ultra crunchy that I had to remove some of it to prevent my mouth from getting scratch up, and both our fries must have been triple deep fried as they were hard on the outside and almost hollow and dry inside. Please inform the chef that you cannot re-deep fry things without consequence. Anyway, overall a nice place to come with friends and chat with a few drinks but lacking in the culinary area. Lots of parking too which is a plus.
Worst food of my life. We ordered the pasta and the poke bowl. I only had 2 spoons of my pasta and my friend didn't touch any of the tuna as the after taste was awful. We did tell the server and all he said was can I bring you some fries? We fully paid for our bill which is not my intention as it wasn't the server’s fault but not one apologized.
Went to Black Bear Pub last night because Browns is under renos. Haven't been in years because we want good food. ha! Our foolishness! First up calamari, with traditional tzatziki, not some disappointing aoli, it was delicious. We were surprised until we got our main. Now we are shocked. My prawn scampi was to die for, the sauce is so good and you can sop it up with the crunchy, chewy, garlicy bread that accompanies it. Partner had a steak sandwich broiled perfectly. Top it off with really good drinks and an excellent server (long curly hair, brunette) she made our night frankly. Black Bear will be our new monthly dinner-after-his-haircut venue.
Great food great prices and great service the crab cake benny was amazing
I have been to this pub a few times and it's pretty good. I felt the staff were pretty rude tonight ... At least the younger girl serving us and the girl at the front. I probably wont be back because of that. But other wise pretty good.
Such a cute neighborhood pub! The food is quite delicious too. Go on a Monday evening if you're into trivia!
Great local pub. Love the separate little sections, gives it a very homey atmosphere. Food is usually solid, Sunday prime rib and Monday stuffed yorkies are really good. Sometimes a bit of a wait for food but by the looks of the constant stream of food coming out of the kitchen, the cooks are justifiably busy. Servers can be stretched thin sometimes but it’s never bad service. A couple of times there has been a mistake but they always comp a drink or appy which is super nice. Always an excellent pint of Guinness, which is a big plus. I hope this place never changes!
Great spot. Very friendly staff. Great food. Great atmosphere. A little too expensive though for my liking considering the quality.
