There were 6 of us and we ordered a wide variety of sushi. Each member of the party said all the sushi was wonderful. The service was also top rate.

I had such a wonderful time eating there. I tried their sashimi and sushi which tasted really great (specially the sock eyed and tuna). They even offered me two great sushis which weren't yet on menu to try them.(I try to thank you at the end but I am not sure you understood me so if you're reading this, thank you really appreciated it).I would gladly recommend!
Really friendly, attentive staff. Super cute and clean interior, love the cherry blossom trees! Delicious food, many vegetarian/vegan options, I love the veggie lunch box and it's a great deal for all the food you get. Also good for getting rolls to go. Note: Miso is made with fish stock.

Love the cherry tree decor too- so fresh, cheerful and bright Decently priced menu too.
Between 11:30 AM to 3 PM the lunch box special is a great deal for $13.99 and they have an entire sushi to go area. However I would only buy it during lunch hour as the rice could become slightly hard during dinner time. The prices and food quality is good but the sushi rolls are a bit small.
Tried this place for the first time after having been to many other sushi restaurants in Nanaimo. Umai is a great value sushi joint with huge sashimi pieces and excellent quality fish. Staff was wonderful and the food came quick. We were even given 2 pieces of cured salmon sashimi and 3 pieces of cured salmon nigiri on the house and asked to let the chef know what we thought of them (they were excellent). Definitely worth trying this place out!
