The place is very cute and cosy and we had High expectations for the food also as it sounded delicious. Unfortunately, the vegan panini we had has taste-less with the very bad quality bread. And the potato wedges was also dry-ish. The beer was good though.
We actually went specially to Nanaimo island just for this cafe, however it's such a disappointment. The male staff member who took the order wasn't really friendly nor interested in making any suggestions for what we should order he should be able to notice it's our first visit to the cafe and it's would be nice if he offer to give us some suggestions of their menus or a small chit chats since the cafe is not busy (no customer queuing behind us) after we ordered he didn't reconfirm/ repeat our order when we make a payment, he also didn't ask if we want a receipt so we didn't check the order. When the drinks were served it was 3 drinks instead of 2 so I only went to take 2 drinks since i only ordered 2 drink, later on the girl server came and brought the other drink to us asking if we ordered this and I told her no.. we only ordered 2 drinks & 3 dishes,(1 BYOB , 1 engplants toast with egg Benedict, and salmon soup) she went back and talked to the male staff who took our order and he came with the drink to our table saying this is our order and he already charged us for this drink, when he came to our table he didn't say sorry or apologies.. I told him no we didn't order 3 drinks since it's only 2 of us, and he replied but you ordered 3 dishes. Since I don't want to ruin my day we finally ask to put the drink in a to go cup. It's the matter of his attitude that is disappointing in our visit to this cafe. The girl staff was really friendly and thoughtful when she delivered our meal asking if we wanted any sauce and.Although the food is not special, the salmon soup is nice and the cafe atmosphere is unique and a nice cafe to take a picture.
We came to grab breakfast here after an early morning ferry. We thought it was a proper breakfast place with service, but it’s definitely more of a cafe where you can grab a quick bite on the go. The iced coffee was good, but I was not a fan of the vegetarian Breakfast Wrap that I got. I’ve never seen such an odd assortment of roasted veggies in a breakfast sandwich before so… not a fan. Overall, we were all disappointed with the food here since the reviews really hyped it up. (No doubt, the food was fresh. But just not great in terms of flavour.)Side note: the decor/ambience is definitely interesting and may not be for everyone.
A bohemian style cafe, amazing food (my first time having a fully loaded breakfast burrito that comes with crispy cheese on the outside, it was heavenly) and reasonably priced. Lots of seats to sit inside and outside. Very lovely vibes, you can also find game cards next to some tables.
Boiling hot latte? Get it here!
We stopped here for a coffee and quick bite. I was very unsure the moment we walked in the door as we are a conservative middle aged couple and the crowd is filled with younger people who choose to be very different. The cafe was busy and it certainly was not quick. A bowl of soup that just needed to be put into a bowl took at least 20 minutes to be ready. The place is filled with "antiques" and could use a really good cleaning. I felt like I was in someone's attic that hadn't been dusted in a long time. There was some kind of heating or cooling unit above the crowd that looked like it was sagging out of the ceiling and looked like it could come down at any time. Not a repeat experience for us.
5 stars for the kitchy ambiance and hipster vibe. Seems like a cool place to go and sip coffee while listening to independent music or slam poetry. Also, 5 stars for the staff who are friendly and made us feel welcome. The food is meh and the coffee is fine. It's a nice little coffee shop/hangout. Nothing that blew me away, but we might be back for some of the live events.
Coolest establishment I've been to on the island yet (and I live here)! Amazing food, friendly service, beautiful live music, gorgeous historic building, and the perfect decor. What a unique and well thought-out place. It really tells you a lot when your server says they love their boss and consider them a friend. I wish every business was like this and I am glad to support them. This place captured the "island vibe" better than anywhere else. Amazing job guys, super impressed and happy I brought my long time friends that were visiting the island here.Every time I head to Nanaimo from Victoria, I'll be stopping by here.
A funky Cafe with an excellent breakfast menu. A lovely place to spend a couple of hours. It was not crowded when I was there.
Very cute vintage style vibed coffee shop. I got an oat milk mocha although I should of asked for a double, a little light for me. Also the coffee is more on the medium fruity side vs dark chocolate roast side. We enjoyed our coffee still though. And just FYI, this coffee shop had sketchy activity right outside. We saw a few people looking into cars testing out car doors so just be sure to lock up your vehicles. Enjoy!
