See Update! Mixed review... Sushi Ryu has been our go-to sushi place for the last couple of years, but since just before Christmas we've had a few not so tasty orders (and two were with visiting relatives who now doubt our bragging rights). We want to give you another chance though!We miss our favorite sushi!!!Update: Sushi Ryu was spot on tonight!!! Tempura and gyozas were crisp and tasty. All of the sushi rolls were made with care and precision! All of the food was just like I remember: fresh, flavorful, and worth bragging about. Thank you Sushi Ryu!!!
Awesome service and huge portions
Ordered out 4 times over the last 6 months via skip. Even after delivery time the food is still tasty and warm.The packages are recyclable and order is correct each time.Price is mid range for sushi.
Really busy on a Saturday night but all covid precautions are being followed. The food was delicious, of slightly different than expected in some cases. Service was hurt by how busy they were, but the food and drinks were delivered fast and in a friendly manner.
We have ordered or gone to Sushi Ryu consistently for years. But the past few months the quality has plummeted. I'm not sure if it's the labour shortage, food costs, or what but there is no quality control whatsoever. Case in point is the 1.5" thick piece of dynamite roll in this picture... the quality of the actual food has also gone downhill. I'd give 1 or 2 stars but I've had so many great experiences over the years....
Didn’t expect such a modern looking restaurant when first walking in. We went at an off time so it wasn’t busy and our food came quickly. High quality fish, everything plated beautifully, service was amazing. I don’t really have anything bad to say about this place so if you’re going through Nanaimo, I highly recommend stopping here.
The food was very tasty! The rolls were fresh, the sushi rice was great, the seaweed wasn't too chewy. The prawn tempura was delish! The reason I didn't give it 5 stars because the lights were on way too bright in the restaurant and the rolls were a little loose and stuffed with way too much (which some people may like). We ate a piece of the tuna Hako Oshi (boxed sushi) before I thought about taking a picture, but it was very good. The other plate has Tamago pieces and avocado roll.

Great sushi place on the island! Highly recommend the Lemon Drop roll, very unique roll that was surprisingly the best thing I'd ordered! Staff were great, and again, absolutely delicious! Will be back again next time I'm in Nanaimo for sure.
