Travelled to Nanaimo, BC and went to this nice place. The gluten free pasta was very well made (a couldn't really tell the difference from the wheat version), the risotto was okay, and the gnocchi had a nice fresh ragu. ??
Benjamin was here, rating should be at least 85% - prices can alway be better if it is below 15$ for dish. Otherwise I am pleased with the overall outcome and they are 100% Vegan friendly, Benjamin Out

What a wonderful place to eat. The food was absolutely delicious and the server was excellent. I had the lemon risotto and it was perfect! Thank you La Stella Trattoria!
What a hidden gem. Recommended by our B&B host. It's not very large, just a few tables, with an open kitchen. You have to book ahead. We had Butter Lettuce and Corona Di Ripiena. Both dishes were superb, incredible flavouring. Do not miss this place if in town.
Chill Italian place is a groovy neighborhood. Absolutely loved the arancini! Definitely try that and the sausage and pepper pizza. So good ^_^ the shushito can get a little spicy.Staff were friendly and the service was quick.
Wonderful atmosphere and awesome staff, but each dish was severely oversalted. We ordered gnocchi, and two pizzas: a marinara (with anchovies) (pictured) and another with meat. The gnocchi was so salty that it was inedible, and the marinara pizza had a thick layer of tomato sauce. The sauce layer was thicker than the pizza dough itself! The dough of the pizzas was very salty. We didn't say anything because we felt bad and had been really looking forward to trying La Stella out. There aren't many good and successful restaurants on the island of this style. Hopefully if you are looking to eat there, this review will help you to decide. And perhaps a bolder soul than us will mention it to the chefs. Possibly it was only an error in our dishes. Everything else about La Stella is lovely. Their pizza oven is very pretty. Only the food, which also looked pretty, was unsuccessful.
Excellent crust on the pepperoni pizza! The center of the pizza was thin but still had a crispy bottom and some chew! The outer crust had those crispy charred dough bubbles which I love cause it gives it some depths of flavour. I can't believe the pepperoni is housemade. The miso chili really grows on you and leaves you wanting more. We blacked out for a sec eating this pizza. Sad when we woke up and it was all gone.
Great food as always. Service was great too. We got there 10 minutes before our reservation and they gave us a great table by the window which had just become available. Had the house bread and arancini for starters. My partner had the beef ragu and I enjoyed my prawn pasta. Delicious, authentic, made in house dishes. I make it a point to visit everytime I am in Nanaimo. Best Italian in nanaimo IMHO.
Loved the food and the experience! Both the pizza and the pasta were top notch, fresh, and delicious. Went with the potato pizza on a whim, and it was really good. Prices were pretty good too, but I might just be comparing to Vancouver. Can't wait to come back and try the other pizzas and pastas!
