Wanted to treat my husband for his birthday. We were seated quickly but waited a very long time for service. Understand short staffed and busy. Finally got our drinks but were never offered any more as we waited a long time to place our order. Finally did place it and waited for almost an hour for it to arrive. Had to chase down the waitress to ask where it was. Almost walked out. My husbands order was just ok, mine was terrible. Dairy free but wasn't offered an alternative, was told at payment time I had to actually ask for it. Won't be back!!
Food was very enjoyable; we both had fish tacos with rice, beans and corn. All great. We sat outside on the patio and both the atmosphere and staff were very pleasant. We definitely will be back.
Unexpected we saw this cafe while getting lost on our day trip to Nanaimo island.Too bad we didn't discover them earlier so we are too full to order any of their delicious Mexican food. The service is really good, staff are friendly and lovely! They welcome us with a bowl of tortilla chips & dip, we ordered their sulsh margarita & 1 without alcohol. We definitely would come back to Nanaimo to try their menu!!
The food was overall good. They bring you fresh chips and homemade salsa to start. I had the chicken buritto ( sorry no pic). While the food portions are huge, the chicken breast in the buritto was very dry and seemed under seasoned compared to the rest of the plate.Sides of corn rice and refried beans all very tasty.Service was fast and friendly and the ambiance very ? good.
So when we got there and sat down, everything was great. My wife had a strawberry margarita and we had some Jarritos. We ordered Nachos with beef which were OK, but the beef was hidden way deep down in the stack of chips and it didn't have much taste. Even so, I was looking forward to my fajitas and my wife and sons to their tacos..... Unfortunately what came out looked like it had all come from the freezer. The steak in my fajitas was tough and grissely, the rice, beans and corn all had a frozen taste to them. The same went for every meal we had. Nothing tasted even remotely Mexican in fact to be fair, it all tasted of nothing. Add to this the fact we were sat at a table in the sunshine on a 30+ degree day, with no aircon and the windows open. The whole thing was just a complete shambles..... I find when the food is that bad, it is not worth complaining because what can the restaurant do? They will give you some free food, but you are already upset in that you have spent hours getting food which was really that bad..... I am not sure why customers go there and to be honest, if there are repeat customers, I would ask why? We had noticed when we entered the restaurant that there was a lot of staff working for only a few tables of customers in the restaurant. For the most part the staff was sat around looking at their phones. It is nice to see one place properly staffed but I fear for this place unless they either get a better chef, or visit Mexico to investigate the flavours their food should have. We went back to our hotel hungry that evening......
We just had a wonderful dinner here. All three of us loved our dishes. The server was so pleasant. And we loved the breeze at our table. Always a nice experience
My wife and I chose Gina’s for our date night. We arrived two hours before our event and were seated very quickly. That was the only positive note. We ordered drinks and waited almost twenty minutes before they arrived and then ordered our food. We waited for nearly an hour before being informed that our order was never put through to the kitchen. Without time to wait any long we were forced to leave without being able to have dinner before our event began. Very disappointed. We came from out of town and typically love Gina’s. Such a shame.
Really good Mexican food. This was one of the best lunch restaurants visited on a 6 day Vancouver Island vacation. Great staff service too.
Great food! My fav place!
THE FOOD: 3 stars. It was quite bland. I don't even know what else to say. I ordered fish tacos with halibut but they had to substitute the fish because they ran out of halibut. There is no indication on the menu at all. Fish taco also came with rice, refried beans and corn bits. I suppose if you don't mind tasteless food, at least the portion will keep you full!THE SERVICE: 2 stars. The wait time was LONG. The entire meal took us 2 hours. I was super hungry when the food finally came, but as I mentioned before, the food was a flop. I think they only have 1 waitress, and she forgot about us. I watched her serve food to some other customer who came in after us. No drink refills either, we had to really try to get her attention.THE PRICE: 2 stars. It costs 20 dollars for a very bland meal.THE ATMOSPHERE: 3 stars. The seats are VERY TIGHT, the tables are very closely arranged. My mother had to squeeze in and then she was trapped between the table and the other customer. (My mum is a small lady). While we were there there were also crying children, because I think she was shocked how spicy the food was. I still give 3 stars because the restaurant itself was in a neat little house with lots of colour and lots of unique character.I sorta also doubt the cleanliness of the place a bit. They have lots of decor sitting around collecting dust.
