Coffee and Lattes are good, snacks are pretty decent. Sometimes the service can be lacking. There have been a few times the staff really didn't look like they wanted to be there, and I was an inconvenience in their day. Sometimes it's good though. Great location, great place to hang out. Just need friendlier staff from time to time?
I went there before I moved to the area a few years ago. I'm a big coffee drinker (not big cups of coffee, just...stick with me here) the quality of coffee seemed to fluctuate a little bit, and only once did it taste watered-down. (it's coffee, I don't think food and drink should be identical everytime)I used up a punch card and got my free coffee ☕️, so I had frequented the place. After I got my own coffee maker and was enjoying my home made coffee I never returned. I went there again today (June 23.) and enjoyed a coffee and a pecan ? tart. It was better than I'd read about from most of the reviews, so I'm probably gonna go there again when meeting people and my place isn't set up like a museum display.
This place went from good to bad in the last 6 months. Baked goods are always old, ice cream tastes old too, coffee is average. I hate to give bad reviews but I hope the owner sees it and work to improve this place.
It’s fine if you want a good coffee, but the location itself is awful. Don’t bother coming here to study as there is no wifi, except a telus local wifi that doesn’t connect for long. There are no outlets as well, except for a bar block that’s a tripping hazard as it’s right by the condiment bar. Not a study friendly cafe!
I frequent Mattu's often and as much as I love the drinks and baked goods, the staff are lacking. Its not entirely their fault of course, Ownership or management will only staff one person during the morning rush. Who does that? Regardless of who makes the schedule, please have more than one person working during the morning hours. Its not fair to your staff or patrons. One staff member in particular, a young lady with no ability to smile needs to go. One morning she got my drink incorrect and didn't apologize or offer to remake it either. I stood there in shock! I was to just accept the drink she made me, I was blown away by her callousness. I have never experienced such disregard for a patron. Its sad that such a great establishment is so poorly staffed. That one particular young lady needs to learn how to smile and be more gracious.
I'm going to be honest the hours are great here but my most recent experience was pretty bad. I asked for a triple berry, bagel with butter to go. Instead of a triple berry I just got a scone of some kind. And then the bagel was given to me in a bag with four butter cups in a knife. Reached in to take a bite while I was driving and found just a plain toasted bagel with the butter things inside the bag. Had to butter a freaking bagel in my car on my lap in the driver's seat...I know it's not fast food, but maybe taking 20 seconds to slather some butter on there for people who are taking a bagel to go would be a nice suggestion.. after all they only offer jam and butter anyways.Subtle thing but walking through the door even though no one's in line, there's no hello or warm welcome like how you get a Starbucks. It's a pretty cold shoulder until they've got time to attend to you at the cash.At least that's the most recent experience I had.
Great service, but price reflects gentrification of area. Coffee was great, and for a $3.67 french vanilla small, I expect it to be...a little extra wouldn't hurt either ;)

Latte drinks are good. But you guys have to top up the cup!!! it's never full. Usually it's 2/3 or 1/2 full.Very poor business practice.
