Ordered Halibut and chips with coleslaw. Fish was dried out and thin, batter was excessive, greasy and way too dark, fries were over cooked so they were dried out, greasy and crunchy. Coleslaw had way too many onions. Tartar sauce was actually mayonnaise with relish mixed in. Would not recommend at all.
I had a friend who just recently passed away and she told me Best Fish and Chips ever.I've been packing her place and nothing left to eat.Instead of going to the typical fast food joints I decide to go get fish and chips to share in a memory we never got to experience.The oil in the fish fryer has definitely not been changed in 4 to 7 days leaving my batter over cooked.Fish has to be over cooked at this point.I don't mind paying $25 for 2 peices of halibut and fish but change your oil regularly not just for competitions. By the way lots of awards up on the wall.The girl behind the counter friendly.For take out I leave an automatic $5 tip in cash.Unfortunately this was not a pleasant experience on my pallet and I trashed my meal after 2 bites.To the owner shame on you . Covid is over. Stop cutting corners.I hope the next time I'm back in Kelowna I will get to experience the quality and taste my friend told me about.
many a chip shop has seen my business. one was owned by a recent british immigrant, who had decided to bring real british fish and chips to my area.i remember getting a bundle of newspapers that was dripping grease by the time i got it home. it was the best damned fish and chips i'd ever had.until i moved here. shady rest. didn't go for a long time, but when i did i had to kick myself. it's just a little hole in the wall shop that looks like it's been there forever. nothing impressive, but the food was smoking hot (still hot when i got home 20 minutes later), and the newspaper bundle was as greasy as it should have been.it's unfortunate that their selection is limited, not at all like a real british shop, but the food is as good as you're going to get. and it's not pre battered, frozen, processed fish like most restaurants will serve you, this is honest to god greasy fish and chips.if you fancy that you are possessed of a 'discriminating palette' then perhaps this is not pretentious enough for you. if, however, you like your fish in that chip shop style this will def hit the mark.have and will go again. just make sure my newspaper is never not greasy. that ain't natural.
By far my favourite fish and chips in all of Kelowna. The fish has a wonder and crispy batter, whilst the fish inside is tender and flakey. Plus if you order take out they are still old school and wrap it in newspapers.
The fish was good in size, litte flavor. Heavy duty oil and the tartar sauce is not tartar sauce, no diced pickle in it. Not coming back.
We are visiting from Toronto and drove by this restaurant yesterday and decided to have our lunch there. The server was very nice and the food was ready in about 10 minutes. We ordered the cod and chips, the portion was quite big for the price. If we going to visit Kelowna in the future, we will definitely visit this restaurant again.
While visiting Kelowna recently, I saw the Shady Rest Fish and Chips restaurant and decided to have a meal there. The woman behind the counter, sister of the owner, was so friendly and we had a lovely chat about England, where we had both lived. The meal arrived and it was THE best fish and chips I've ever eaten this side of the Atlantic! The piece of fish was a good size and there were lots of tasty chips. I can't recommend this place enough. I will return for another meal the next time I visit Kelowna.

I Am a Disabled Canadian Citizen.I grew up with almost the same fish and chips in Tsawwassen B.C. It was the best of the bestI moved here and thought I had found the sameUntil lately.... I have spent a Lot of money there and would like to continue.... I am very disappointed with the customer service I have had from one person (She has been there quite some time ...has an accent)I am (people would not think if they saw me) DisabledI can have have short term memory loss and delayed reactions to questions.This Lady has been So short, Curt , & mean to me.This has been One of many times . I Have complained beforeThe last time I placed an order for a house hold of 7 (three separate orders) over the phoneConvincing them that it was the best they would have here. I tried to get order out the best I could. knowing who was on the other end of the lineI asked if they could cut one piece in half and fry as I had two little kids that had not tried before and was told No. So I left it.When I got there I asked why that that couldn't be done? I was told "Because they are Weighed" Ummm ???I had forgotten to ask for more Tarter on the phone so I asked for more (one is free with meal I think) She said "You didn't say that on the phone when I asked you if there was anything else"At this point I was getting pretty anxious (she had on mask but her eyes were darting at me). So I said I will pay for them separate (she had already started punching into cash register with extra tarter)So she stopped and I think cancelled order looking very frustrated. I was SO Anxious by then that I said "just put it on one order"She said she could put it on separate orders if I wanted to So I said yesDuring this account she was looking (making (bulging eyes) at the chef) and shaking her head as if I was eitherAsking too much?Being demanding ?Troubling her ?I finished paying and went to walk out the door and as I opened the door and went to leave (not at counter)I heard a condescending have a good nightI got home and told the people I was bringing supper to and they all (from the weighing of the fish) and the whole experience were ANGRY enough to say they are not going to go there againMe I would like to Forgive and forget but do not to ever feel this way going into an establishment againPut down, intimidated, etcI Feel like there will be a mark on my back if I come in againMy friends have encouraged me to write thisI would Hope something is done (As there are are A lot of Disabled people out there)Especially the Elderly that Love the Old Style Fish and ChipsSadly in my experience if the person is confronted and lies there will be NO ChangeIt would be A Shame to Lose BussinessThank you
Best in the city when it's cooked properly but 4 out of 5 times it's undercooked. I've ordered about 30 times so I'm comfortable saying this.
