I was quite excited when I first found this place. The menu and everything looked great. But once we got our food, I realized there was quite a bit missing, especially in flavor. The rice was not seasoned at all, and many of the dishes seemed just underwhelming. One dish in particular, felt like a complete rip off. It was basically a California roll with a small dab of scallop and topped off with mayo for $15. Just quite insane to me.
We had an amazing meal at this hidden gem of a place. All of the sushi was fresh and very well made. Perfect balance of rice and other fresh ingredients. The fish was probably the freshest we have had at a sushi shop.Service was spot on, attentive. We never had to ask for more water, she was there as soon as our water was low. We arrived 10 minutes before closing and they sat us and served us as though it would be open for hours.Small family run place, best sushi experience in years. Yes it's a little pricey but the quality is hands down worth it. Some of their rolls are really big so when the server tells you those are big believe her.We will return again when we are in the city.
I have been to many sushi spots in the province and I've got to say that this spot is a hidden gem. For the price, the sushi is excellent to the taste and each special roll has it's own flavors. Not only is the food very good, but the chef makes it quite quickly and the presentation will still be flawless. I admire those who love their profession and with the dishes I was devouring I can definitely sense the passion. The beef tataki was my partner and I's personal favorite. We actually had gone to this restaurant for dinner on 2 consecutive days with how the sushi left us craving from the first visit. The torched salmon oshi sushi is also a must have. Super tender salmon and has a nice kick with a thinly sliced pepper on top.Glad to have stumbled upon this restaurant when browsing for sushi. I will definitely recommend this to anyone I know.
We have been enjoying Hanamori Sushi since 2016. We have never been disappointed. Consistently excellent and our favourite sushi restaurant by far.
My family and I come to this restaurant on regular basis. I have had business meetings and told some many of my friends and contacts about this restaurant. The customer experience has deteriorated significantly since we first started coming in. It is unfortunate that the host is not that friendly and always look at us as we’re visiting for the first time. We stopped going there and we’re now going to other sushi restaurants and spending our money where people appreciate our business. I sure hope that the restaurant owners recognize this and work on improving customer experience because they offer decent food.
Walked in, ordered to go, very fresh & tasty Tuna Rolls, California Rolls , Tuna Sushimi, taste better than others I have tried in surrounding area.
Pretty solid sushi joint. Not the biggest, only has 4 tables. Sushi was pretty decent. Would not recommend the spicy agedashi tofu. Taste like they just put ketchup on the tofu ?. Everything else was pretty good. Salmon oshi ?
These guys never disappoint.- The quality of the food is top notch.- The chef is excellent.- The people that run it are super nice.If you appreciate high quality Japanese for eat-in or take out at reasonable prices in the Burnaby/Tri-Cities area, this spot is worth a try.If your main focus for sushi and Japanese is cheap prices, you can walk up the street and eat the trash at that spot on the corner strip mall...
Hanamori Sushi, is an amazing warm atmosphere and the sushi was super fresh and tasty. I just wanted to eat everything on the menu!! The snow village rolls just melt in your mouth. The Aburi Salmon, torched Saba and torched salmon belly is to die for. Absolutely loved it!! The yam shrimp tempura and potato croquettes were so light and crispy!! Thank you so much for an amazing experience ?☺️ Also if you like your tea you get lots of refills ? Amazing quality and presentation!!
The sushi itself is decent. But the service leaves A LOT to be desired. We decided to dine in, and was greeted by an extremely cold and unwelcoming server who seemed annoyed that we wanted to sit down to eat there. After we settled our bill, my friend and I stayed a bit longer to finish our tea and a very enjoyable conversation we were having when the server came and essentially kicked us out - telling us there's a maximum time limit to stay there. There were no other patrons, the rest of the restaurant was completely empty - clearly they weren't busy, they just didn't want us around (despite me having already left her a 25% tip because I didn't have change). Although the food was pretty good, it wasn't exceptional enough to put up with such terrible negative vibes. With so many great sushi spots in the area, I prefer to give my business to owners who actually welcome it. Will never come here again, and will tell my friends who live in the neighbourhood to avoid it.
