Very friendly staff and delicious sushi/appetizers. Sashimi was fresh and food was flavourful. Though the total was expensive, we had a good experience dining here!
What a treat! Date night quality! 5 star all around on food, service, decor/ambience, presentation of food and pricing for the quality of food. I’ve been wanting to try this place out for awhile and it was WONDERFUL! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It’s for the discerning sushi lovers who love the omakase experience and love being asked if they want their scallops to be flown fresh from Japan or flown frozen from Japan. The connections and the supply chain that the owner has is incredible and that’s what you pay for, fresh, quality fish, directly from the fishmongers in Japan. Truly it feels like a sushi bar from Tsukiji Fish Market but it happens to be in our Burnaby Heights hood.I think this place deserves to be on a date night list, dinner for a celebratory occasion or a place to go to with a sushi lover. There’s no California Roll on the menu, go and taste the jewels of the ocean. Expect to pay for quality. The restaurant itself is unassuming, decor is minimal, very tasteful and well thought out. Food presentation is impeccable. Bonus points for the gluten-free soy sauce they provide if you ask.
Everything is fresh. Rice is perfectly cooked for Sushi. Taste is exquisite. Even Green tea they have is very good. I felt like I was home(In Japan)The store is well-cleaned and ppl are nice too. I would love to come back to try some more!! Highly recommend.
Unique and authentic experience. We did not have reservations so we went right at opening at 5pm on Sunday. It was a good thing because most of the tables were reserved and there were many take out orders. The omakase dinner was good and they fried the fish head and bones for us. The sushi and sashimi were unique (from the daily specials in particular) but nothing really special about rest of menu
Ensure have a reservation before arrival (around 25 seats only)“ Today Special “ posted on Sushi bar area ; use that as Omakase menu ! order 1 - 2 pcs per kinds ! usually very fresh!chef always can find different kinds of seasonal fishes as sashimi ?????? ( i like the selections)Cooked foods - averagePrice : a bit of expensive to me ( still acceptable)
Everything went perfectly when I took my partner for bday dinner.I don’t eat raw so he ordered the Sushi Omakase. And then we shared the Ika appetizer and the special Skewers. Also i ordered the House Udon.We were so full by the end, and it was an experience rather than just dinner as the types of sashimi available here is so premium.Unlike anywhere else we went before!!And the price is soooo kind. And so is all the staff! Definitely going back and would recommend 100%
WOW! A very small Japanese restaurant that has some of the fishes flown in from Japan. Fishes such as the Bluefin tuna. The sushi chef are Japanese, so you can’t get any authentic than that.Warning- the prices are a tad high but the quality is top notch! We ordered the Ika butter (whole grilled squid with garlic soy butter), so yummy - fantastic! The leftover sauce was used in my udon & some leftover rice - Heaven!Okra tempura- very good, batter was very light yet kept the okra very crispy, they served with a small plate of dipping salt. Okra was not slimy! My hubby said it taste better without the dipping salt. I kinda like the dipping salt, found that it accentuates the taste. We had the beef tataki( thinly sliced beef seared sashimi in ponzu sauce) very nicely done & tasted good. We had an assortment of sushi - fresh & good. Chirashi- big pieces of sashimi… they did not skim in the portion of raw fishes, the salmon was so red that it had to be sockeye. Had the house udon - fresh & good with lightly battered shrimp tempura. The abalone sashimi was pretty expensive, however it was very fresh & good - thoroughly enjoyed by my hubby & son.The hubby & kids had the handroll bluefin tuna belly & uni - they loved it… very very fresh. We then ordered 4 pieces of the bluefin tuna belly (otoro)The most expensive item of it all - the marbling of the tuna belly was a sight to behold. It was smooth & creamy, taste like butter. It had a very nice after taste to it. We throughly enjoyed the meal, needless to say.Parking available in the street - Proper Covid check, the restaurant is small… reservation highly recommended.
My girlfriend took me here for my birthday. One of the best authentic sushi experience I have ever had and I've been to Japan. I have never tasted tempura this good before and I've had tons of different tempura experiences. This restaurant will definitely cost you a pretty penny, but it's worth the experience. Highly recommend the bluefin otoro if you've never tried it before. They have very high quality fish here. They also have specials for the day that's is worth checking out.Definitely not one of your usual Vancouver sushi experience. Highly recommended if you want a really good high quality sushi experience.
Definitely high quality and super fresh fish. The quality of their rice is way above average as well. Chefs and servers are very friendly. Definitely a treat to dine at Toyo!
Good sushi. Portions well sized, affordable. Menu has no pictures but server was very polite to answer questions
