First time ever at The One. I never knew there was a Taiwanese restaurant as it's quite tucked in and the sign is not that noticeable. The first thing that made me take away a star was the lack of acknowledgement. I stood there for a good 7 minutes, made eye contact twice with the girl but no communication about what's happening. Then the vested guy in the photo came in later strolled up to the counter and the girl helped him with his takeout order right away. So I was a little bummed about this. I guess I'm spoiled by good service that may sound like: "hey someone will be with you shortly" on the first eye contact connection. Later a different guy with glasses greeted and seated us. Food is mediocre. In my honest opinion I prefer Myst down the street.
The restaurant motto is “The one and only”, yeah they might be the one and only Chinese restaurant that serves EPIC portions. The fried Taiwanese popcorn chicken is literally the size of your fist. It reminds me of how French restaurants use a mega plate with a tiny piece of duck in the middle, well this restaurant will fill that plate up with food and then some. I swear the chefs are trigger happy. Come here if you love strongmen-size portions. I’m done ranting.
Decided to try The One for the first time in 2 plus years on Saturday March 19th, 2022. Was hesitant because of past reviews.Went for an early dinner because place can be quit busy during dinner time. Well place was still clean and bright, service a bit slow as expected but the food was great! Presentation was good and bug portions. One plate of fired rice can literally feed 3 plus people. We had their popular Chicken Nugget Fried Rice, Fried Squid, order of XO sauce fried beef noodle and couple of other dishes. Also had their popular slushy drinks. Drinks are literally towers of slush. We ordered lychee slush, mango slush and coconut pinnapple slush. All 3 were loaded with flavor as we remembered.Dinner was great and very affordable for families! Service even though a bit slow, workers were friendly and polite. Must try spot for everyone.
Food is 11/10 but the customer service is really bad in our experience and othere reviews. We reserved a table for 6. As soon as we entered there is this guy who wears specs who served us. We're not expecting him to greet us or even welcome us but his tone was really rude. We thought he speaks like that normally. Then he made us scan the menu and every dish has their own number codes with letter and it's our first time there and we were celebrating our mom's birthday. After we were done deciding what to order, he then came and took the order and we started telling him the numbers and he said "I need the name pf the food this menu is no longer available " first thing first, he didn't let us know and made us scan the menu he was referring as "no longer available". When were telling him the names of the food he kept on interfering and rudely saying "is it a meal or just a dish" we don't know that it comes with it cuz was written in different language. It was not nice staying there. The ambiance and vibes changed when the lady covered his service.
I remember the food being pretty good but the other night I went for drinks and ordered a red bean slush. Please do yourself a favour and never order any kind of slush ever. They charged me 8 dollars for a cup of ground up ice with absolutely no flavour.
Great portions so nothing to complain about in that department. The menu however is very outdated though. It would be nice if there’s photos with each of the items so we have more visuals as to what each item looks like. The place also needs a renovation. The decor is old and dated. Tables have a ton of scratch marks.
I haven't eaten inside, but I do love their Kung Pow chicken fried rice. It is spicy and has peanuts. For whatever reason, when I am craving fried rice, I think of that particular fried rice. It's addicting.A lot of my friends seems to know about the One Restaurant. When I mention the One Restaurant, they know it quite well. When they catch me eating that fried rice when I invite them over, they say, "is that from The One Restaurant?" They seem to distinguish the food from other restaurants. I'm not sure how my buddies know that. The One Restaurant definitely seems to do something right to draw their customers in.
Great food, but don't expect great service, not very friendly...
It has been around 5-6yrs since I have been here unfortunately since I moved out of Vancouver and it is still just as amazing as I remember it. I got my favourite dishes, deep-fried squid tentacles, chicken nugget fried rice and two slushes, one mango and mixed berry. The slushes were just as huge as before and they were so fresh and tasty. AMAZING. I miss the place so much and I will be going back as soon I come to visit Vancouver again.
Food is normally good and portions are big. Recommend visiting during non-peak times as this place is open late. Customer service is quite poor though so be forewarned.
