Great casual Korean food place away from the downtown parking crowds ~ perfect for authentic traditional comfort food.Came here on March 20/22 & they still checked for vax cards (no prob for us) & the friendly staff wore masks. Tables are still nicely spaced out, which I’m grateful for. They offered us tea and once the order was made, the wait for food was short. We both had the grilled mackerel with seafood tofu soup which also came with rice & the appies of seaweed, fish strips & kimchi. Also ordered an appetizer of japchae ~ but forgot to take a pic!Good portions for the price, flavourful & filling!Free parking at front & back at this stand alone resto. Will be back!(*find me on Instagram @aida.loves )
Edit: prices slight increase with smaller bulgogi portions for lunch combo. One of my favorite places in terms of affordable seafood pancake (haemul pajun). For the same portion, other places will charge $15-$18. Their before 3pm BBQ combo is a good value as well at $15 for seafood OR beef tofu soup and bulgogi beef. The soup isn't as flavorful as other places though. As a side note, I happened to be there when the health inspector was visiting (July 15th, 2019) and overheard the conversation (not very discreet of them to talk when I am within earshot) that there are issues with their refrigerator/refrigeration of foods and the inspector seem to imply that she will shut them down unless they fix the issue ASAP, so the owner is calling the company to come fix it today. The inspector was getting impatient waiting though.
I've only tried delivery from here twice but I would say one of the better Korean restaurants in Vancouver. Pork bone soup I thought it was missing depth of flavour but actually it's clean and not greasy. Meat is never dry and meaty on the bones.
Was quite disappointed by the food here. The prices are cheap but the portions reflect that - the Gamjatang soup had very little depth and the meat was still tough. The beef broth soup had decent flavour, but the portion was tiny. Tofu soup was average, but hard to mess that up. With so many other Korean restaurants nearby, won’t be back.
Food was good but service not. We have been to this restaurant many times but today was the first time that we received service this bad. We (2 adults and a 4-year old) arrived early at 11:30am for lunch and there was just one table with customers just getting ready to sit down. The waitress didn’t bring us to our table but rather just gave us the menus at the door. We decided to sit at the table by the window and suddenly she yelled at us that the table has been reserved. Ok that’s fine and we picked another table. When we ordered the waitress said we didn’t order enough food (2 dishes) because we had 3 people. I told her we have never had any issue with ordering 2 dishes at this restaurant to share with our 4-year old before. She finally reluctantly took our order and warned us that next time we need to order more. Is this a new policy? If so, I would consider this no longer a family friendly restaurant. Unfortunately food alone isn’t going to keep customers.
We probably ordered more than we needed. The food was good. Somehow I felt all the dishes were too sweet. If I only had one main dish with rice, I might feel okay with it. However each dish tasted sweet, that’s not so enjoyable. Also, the kimchi didn’t have proper taste.
Honestly, I have nothing to complain about. I really like their tofu beef hot pot. It tastes so good. And the price is reasonable based on the quality of food. I definitely, I will visit again.
BBQ beef was tasty and so was the army soup, but the portions are ⅓ of other Korean restaurants. BBQ pork and fried chicken were so under seasoned and bland. Also $6 for a can of Bud Light is robbery. $200 meal for 3 guys and we had to get A&W afterwards... Definitely do not recommend this at all. There are tons of great alternatives in the area.
Customer service is bad. When we arrived, the waitress just directed us to the table at the end of the restaurant. The table setting is not arranged properly and and it wasn’t clean. There were rice on the chair and on the bench.
Service is great. Feel like every table is well taken cared of. Love the mom and pop feel of the resto. The menu items need to be improved though with more options. Understand though that the operation is small and with COVID-19, there is less table to support a grand menu.
