Honestly, this university does not care about its students at all. A 6 week strike where the university refused to negotiate until the last week, the lost of research, failing to provide students with services they have paid for. My nursing instructors are incredible, but the old associate dean told someone to drop out instead of offering assistance. I’m sorry, but awesome instructors can make up for this lacklustre university.Side note ULeth, if I pay for a parking pass, make sure I can actually park, like seriously?
Honestly burning your money would be more beneficial than giving it to this wretched institution. The wifi is always down. The food is absolutely horrible and overpriced. (Their cafeteria is literally famous for serving undercooked chicken) Dorms have bugs and are flooded at least once a year. The union faculty and the board of governors are more concerned about their pockets than they are about the students.
After this past year, I am convinced that the University and (some) of the professors care little for their students. During the 5 week strike this year, the University was negligent in updating its students on the status of the strike. The only useful update posted by them was two days before the strike ended, when a lot of students had already moved out of Lethbridge. The only reliable source of information during this period was Uleth Wildin, the University’s meme page on instagram…I wish this was a joke. Professors showed little care for students flowing the strike, as many tried to cram half a semester of work into about a month of class time. This being said, there were also professors who listened to the concerns of their students and made adjustments accordingly. Between this and the constantly fluctuating class delivery methods due to the pandemic, I am feeling jerked around by this University, and I sense I am not the only one. I think it is safe to say that the University lost a lot of respect due to this situation, both from students and possibly from other institutions. This strike has had a HUGE impact on the mental health of the student population. I can only hope that the U of L takes steps to adequately rectify this situation. Simply resolving the strike was not enough.
