Had lunch. Poke bowl with rice was pretty good. The beef tataki was not so much. Very little sauce , even after asking for extra sauce it wasn't enough. They give you a tiny side of sauce to begin with. The rolls we ordered had way too much rice. Good if you are looking for value ?Overall I would come back

Haven't been here for quite some time and was very disappointed.First impressions: the vinyl seats were all torn up, the menus looked filthy and worn, server was unfriendly and unprofessional. We had to grab our own chopsticks and napkins because the server walked past us on her phone while we're trying to flag her attention. We ordered 2 Bento boxes: the fish was not fresh, and the tempura was greasy tasting. What was good was the beef, sprouts and tea. When we told the server that the fish did not taste fresh, she didn't say a word, as though she didn't care.Definitely learned our lesson and will not be back.

I'm not sure if it's the new ownership after the name change or something else, but the quality of service has gone down quite a bit since I used to come. This used to be one of my favourite spots. The food still tastes the same, but the level of service and general care taken with the restaurant have gone downhill. I come here at least once a week for lunch, and even when there are ten tables with customers, there's still only one server. She's trying to serve and host and this is untenable. The menus are falling apart, she doesn't have time to check on, or properly clean, tables. It just makes for a terrible experience. I hope the ownership reads this review and takes the time to improve on these issues.

I ordered the karaage chicken and momiji sushi; the chicken was fresh and juicy with plenty of flavor and crispy on the outside. The establishment decided on a new vendor for their smoked salmon, so the slices on the momiji were not sufficient to pack much flavor, further, the rolls were dry and fell apart with most of the filling being flakes.I would say they have been cutting back significantly to save money on their sushi or else people are not visiting as often (hence the rice dries out from not being used). I would not rule out visiting this place as their prices are still reasonable unlike some other eateries/restaurants whose prices have skyrocketed.

I would recommend Tanuki Kyoto Sushi! The food is delicious and the prices are decent. Family owned and all the food is made with love. If you like sushi, check this place out and support local!

My girlfriend & I always come here and love it. Our food has always been hot and fresh and service is always speedy.

My new favorite sushi shop. Salmon sushimi was some of the best I've ever had and good sized pieces. Staff were friendly and attentive. No complaints, great little place. We will be back.

The maki rolls were disappointing as there was barely any filling in them, especially the fish. There are many other places( Japonais, I love sushi, Nagoya, kiwado to name a few) that have sushi where you can actually distinguish that there is seafood in the maki you just ate. Just not worth it here. See the picture for just how little fish there is and how badly portioned the rice to filling ratio is. Chicken karaage was a little too salty. But I will say the tempura shrimp was good and the oil wasn’t disgustingly old.

Best sushi in Edmonton if you are looking for a quality/cost balance. Their online ordering system is very easy and convenient as well. The Kyoto Special Salad is my go-to!

Our favorite sushi place in Edmonton. Been a repeat customer now for several years and it's always a pleasant experience. Would highly recommend :)
