I had a really positive dining experience here! The staff were friendly and the menu was rather unique-the names of their special rolls and the ingredients in each of them aren't commonly found in most sushi places such as "lime thyme pepper aioli sauce" in their Sakura Blossom roll, and many rolls have spicy mayo which is a flavourful kick. They have 1 aburi-style roll that was disappointing but their establishment is not known or focused on aburi so I'll give it a pass. The aburi was heavy on the rice and tasted more like a seared salmon nigiri with a large rice to fish ratio than true aburi oshizushi. All their other rolls were quite delicious. We also ordered 2 of their "baos" and they were absolutely delicious!I was surprised that mid-meal a server came with a promo that customers who spend over $50 get a free choice between a katsu curry don or a tuna rice bowl! It was a lovely surprise! I chose katsu curry but there was probably a mixup and I ended up receiving the tuna bowl. It was also heavy on the rice to fish/toppings ratio but because it was free I'm not too fussed about it.
One of the best ramen places in Calgary! The noodles are good, broth flavourful, seating area comfortable, interior clean and spacious, servers friendly, and prices reasonable. There is a wide selection of Japanese dishes besides ramen but I generally get ramen which is always tasty. If you order extra noodles (an extra $7) then you get a massive amount of ramen relative to most other restaurants around. Parking is small but not terrible. Highly recommend checking this place out!
Ordered some sushi to go for lunch, and found both the appearance and quality to be rather disappointing. There was barely anything inside the rolls, and the avocado used was not fresh, considering the brownish hue it had. I honestly don't think I've ever seen salmon cut so thin and small before. The staff was pretty nice, but the sushi I got made me feel like I got ripped off because they were trying to save money and cut corners.
Don't come here if you dislike thick noodles, I checked the photos before I came but they are thick in person... Wish they had thin noodles like other places, thick noodles do not absorb any flavour. I will come back if they start making thin noodles like most authentic ramen. Make thick noodles an option for those who like thick noodles... You will get more business. There is a reason why the other ramen place Jinya is extremely busy and successful. Rest of the ramen was good, good portion.
It was a good food trip experience definitely. The Salmon Sashimi and Ramen are ?.
We had the salmon don and the tonkatsu ramen for takeout and both were soooo good! We recently moved here from Toronto so a little picky when it comes to ramen and sushi, and yet we can still say this is fabulous!
Really great friendly service, the ramen and sushi were really tasty, calamari batter was a bit odd but not bad. A bit on the expensive side but you get a lot of food compared to some other places so it evens out.
I have recently started eating at Wami Ootoya but don’t think I will continue unless some changes are made.1. Avocado rolls only have a sliver of avocado that you can barely taste. Much less than anywhere else close by like Sushi BBQ Inn2. The packaging is excessive. Every order comes in a plastic bag, with chop sticks and soy sauce within another bag. Most sushi restaurants do this, but it’s time changes are made. The earth does not need anymore unnecessary waste that is already polluting our oceans and affecting fish supply. I want to see this restaurant move away from plastic bags and start making the other items optional as most people already have those items at home.
This is a very nice Japanese restaurant. However, if you are looking for gluten free options (as I was), it's fairly limiting (only the sashimi and sashimi salad is gluten free in their restaurant). Nonetheless, you get pretty good value for your money, as every dish is much larger than expected (even the miso soup comes in a very large bowl).
Order via skipthedishes but the food wasn't good as I expected. The food is overpriced since in my donburi didn't have any veggies except for little cucumber. And the food wasn't fresh. The only good part is the food was still hot when came to my place. So disappointed. Never order again
