Every time I have been here the place has been pleasantly packed. I get a little anxious in cramped conditions and yet somehow this place can be wall to wall people and enjoyable. The service has been good, the menu covers all the usually pub style offerings. A plate of chicken wings and cauliflower bites after a hockey game or a day at the stampede is always a good way to end an evening... And I'm sure it would be a good place to start as well. They do have seating upstairs and outside on a patio if things look crowded at the front.
This place rocks. Do you want to pay 40% less for the same great beer on HH and get even better friendly service? come here. Do you want great food? Come here. Do you want a genuinely comfortable bar with good seating? Come here. There's no waitlist when you show up, there's no confusion when you walk in.... it's just, "Hey! How's it going? We've got a table for you right over here, come on in we'll grab you a drink"
Avoid this place! The food & service are bad and the manager Jeff is a typical nightclub manager, not a restaurant manager. I went there with a friend and I had problems with my drink and my food. I also had to go to the kitchen and bar to get things as our server never came back to our table. She was the only server scheduled and there was a lunch rush. I see why all the staff left and they had to hire a new crop. Jeff refused to even discount our bill after I told him about my experience. There are better places in this block, like Home & Away!
Great burger! Good beer, friendly staff and atmosphere. Nice change of pace from more “club” style bars down the street.
Lovely atmosphere. $3 taco special was good, but fish portion was small on the taco. Poutine was great.
Great little pub. Food was great, atmosphere was great, beer selection is great. Only issue is management, service was amazing but the servers and bartender were stretched thin. Niko the bartender was amazing, great guy, amazing at his job. I'll definitely be back, even if I have to wait 15 minutes to place my first drink order. The owners/management should give raises to the staff, because it seems they're the reason this place is so wonderful.
This place is a nice neighborhood pub, it's slightly quieter than the ruckus that is 17th. The staff are super friendly, the service is amazing and the wings are just ?
I have been unusually harsh to St James in the past, due to one bad experience early in the pandemic. I've tried it again, but they seemed to have a revolving door of impersonal staff and poor food. I am happy to say that this has definitely changed, the waitress and bartender were both lovely, and overall the food quality has come up remarkably.Is it the best food in Calgary? No. Is it the best restaurant on this stretch? No. But of you are looking for decent food and a cold beer, combined with a fairly warm and welcoming space, you can definitely do worse.I'll probably be back.
Great vibe, not your traditional Irish interior. Staff were super nice, the food menu was a mixture of Irish fare and American bar food. Portion sizes were HUGE and the food was delicious. I recommend the nachos!
Great spot! Amazing staff, always super friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the products they sell. ALSO amazing deals throughout the week! On Saturday nights they have live music, great atmosphere. 10/10 recommend!!
