The food was definitely a 5 star experience--best potato salad I've EVER had--and it was possibly a bit overstaffed. There was a street festival outside their door, so I'm glad that they were well prepared, and the wait was short, but the poor employees were falling over themselves. Now, that last star....there was, who I'm assuming, a supervisor, a woman with dark hair, LOSING it on the staff. Yes, she was pushing for better customer service, however as a customer, I find it unprofessional, and downright sad, to see management berate their staff openly, in front of customers. Just as no parent should publicly embarrass their child, no superior should publicly humiliate their staff.I will eat there again, but I hope that supervisor, or ANYONE at this restaurant sees this review, and addresses bullying of staff. Not cool. Not classy.
This is an iconic place in Calgary and, if you haven't been here before, you should definitely give Spolumbo's a try. I've shared many meals here over the years with good friends (my favorite is the Montreal smoke meat) and they make terrific sausages! What keeps us coming back is the desserts. We can never leave this place without bringing home extra peanut butter chocolate chip bars, date squares, chocolate brownies and the incomparable magic squares which are truly magic!
We've been in the area 5 times now and never seem to get here in time to pick up their beef chorizo sausages. Frustrating.Sorry can't get there after work. Sunday also you are closed. We are in the area all the time but can't get there within your business hours. Any options?
I've been a fairly long term customer with a consistent order that includes a GF bun due to celiac disease. Never once have I reacted to a meal and when I observe a spot check I notice the staff diligently preparing my sandwich in a dedicated area and reflecting care towards cross contamination. Today was the first time ever a small mistake was made and the wrong bun was substituted. I opened my sandwich and wondered how the bread could look so fluffy and delicious! I realized pretty quickly (without eating it) that my dream of truly delicious GF buns was still not yet to be realized. I took my sandwich back and I got a fresh sandwich made, a genuine apology, and an offer for something to make up for the service lapse. This is why I love Spolombos, not only are they local, they really subscribe to great customer service. Service recovery is something I don't always see, but it was made up in spades today!*Their GF bun is actually pretty decent as far as GF goes, but those with celiac who remember a life of gluten know that the removal of gluten leaves our bread less than fluffy! If any company is to bring in the closest to delicious GF bun possible it is Spolombos in Inglewood :) (Spolombos in Mayland carry the same bun, but the GF/cross contamination practices aren't as clear to me so I stick to Inglewood).
Italian sandwich, sausages are so good. Even the lavazza coffee is the best. Can get packed very quickly during lunch. A must try
Would recommend going in if possible. Have ordered them on skip before, the first time it was great but she second time they sent me pork instead of chicken. I don’t eat pork for dietary reasons. Couldn’t get it refunded, super disappointing.
Always great to eat in or buy sausage to take home and cook. The sausage is the best in calgary. Lots of variety.
Always loved the food here. Their sausage products are the best in town. I was absolutely blown away by how much the owner does for the community. Brings extra meaning to "support local".
Can't beat this place when your in the area and need something to eat. Not in the menu but ask for the budget special! One of their sausages on a bun with 2 huge meatballs and tomatoes sauce, its so good.
Had been wanting to come here for ages and finally made it on Saturday. Ordered the 9th Ave which is pictured here. It was pretty good - felt like it was missing something but otherwise satisfying. Large portions. Only complaint was every single table was filthy. Crumbs, smeared food, wet rings from beverages. It was mid afternoon and while it was steady, it wasn’t so busy that they could’ve have had a staff cleaning tables. The bathrooms are in the basement - hopefully there are more accessible washrooms on the main floor. This is something I always think about as someone with a limited mobility family member.
