Beautiful, so beautiful, the presentation is only surpassed by the taste. The attentive and uniquely respectful food prep creates flavours you will literally never taste anywhere else.A beautiful, unique, experience, 20+ visits in the family and never the same experience, never a complaint, always a joy.
One of the best contemporary Japanese concepts in Alberta right now.We were looked after by Yan who took great care of us despite the Saturday night dinner rush.Food was served promptly and romanced when delivered helping us understand the best way to enjoy the dishes.Cocktails were unique and kept up with the same ingenuity of the food. The Feature sashimi was also really fresh and a great first impression to the rest of the meal. They know what they're doing here ??
We've wanted to come here for years and it is amazing. The skewers are delicious, the sake beer is amazing. Everything we ate was so good. Their special confit wings were the best wings we've ever had. Every chicken wing should taste like those. We're not from Calgary but this will be a place we come every time we come back for a visit. Also, amazing service!
Can't say enough about this classy little spot with amazing staff, ambience and some very sustainable and inspired grub. Jiwon, our server was friendly and helpful, attentive but not in the least bit overbearing and definitely made a lasting impression on us and how we view Shokunin as a whole. All of our food was incredible with the exception of the broccolini which could've standed a little longer in the heat and a tad more seasoning. Everything was fresh, tasty and unique but the cold shucked scallop, tempura eggplant with goat cheese and sablefish sushi were our favorites. Their cocktails are also so good; we loved the Tokyo banana and deathnote as well as the Lucky Cat sake. We truly enjoyed our experience at Shokunin and look forward to repeating it in the future.
Loved our meal here. We came with the kids (5y/o and 8y/o) for an earlier seating at 5pm and everything worked out great. The kids loved trying out different types of meat and had fun learning how to eat off skewers.Food was quick and tasted great, they also had wonderful fresh sushi menu which was a pleasant surprise.Loved the ambience and decor and would recommend for a great place to catch up with a few friends. For sure need to make reservations cause they are busy; but staff is friendly and service is excellent!
My partner and I were there for Keisukes last day and it was so good. The staff here work so well together they make sure all the customers are taken care of, exceptional service. The food and especially the shokunin ramen was truly amazing! It’s no wonder lots of Japanese people love coming here. The atmosphere was fantastic but sad seeing one of their beloved chefs go. It’s an end of an era for shokunin but we’re very excited for what’s next. Having lived in Japan, I Definitely recommend coming here if you’re looking for a great izakaya experience. We hope Keisuke the best, we’re going to miss you!
A delightful meal and saw that this place was listed as part of Canada’s top 100 restaurants. The critics were definitely right as the yakitori (chicken skewers) were AMAZING. The price point of the skewers I would say are on the high end (around $6 per skewer) but definitely worth trying some of them. The curry dip for the katsu sando was a great combo. The raw items, the scallops and nigiri were all fantastic as this chef is familiar with such high quality items ( owner of Nupo as well)
The ambiance was nice and food was good with fresh clean ingredients and high attention to detail featuring smooth developed flavors that were restrained and not over the top. The best part were the staff as they were very accommodating, knowledgable, and expressed genuine interest in their guests enjoying their time. Try their amazing cocktails!
Almost everything on the menu is quite tasty. Some definitely stand out above the rest. Recommend the bison tataki. Skin on thigh/breast and rib yakitori. Trendy environment and excellent service. There is a lingering thought on the profit margins they must make essentially selling less desirable parts of the chicken such as “ass”, “wing tips”. Expect to drop around $100 just on food alone when hungry.
5 stars all the way! Trendy little sport in downtown Calgary. Amazing service, delicious food and wonderful ambiance. The servers take the time to describe the dishes to you as they are brought to your table. Almost everything is made by the chef or sourced from his farm. Nice selection of wine and mixed beverages available as well!
