The food is very good! However, we didn't get an actual bill and the server just told my husband the total having already added a 20% tip without saying she had added a tip (table with two adults and one child so not expecting that either). My husband ended up paying another 20% tip on top of that and we only realized later since we were in a hurry to leave as our upset toddler was already outside the restaurant with me. I don't have a problem with automatic gratuity although it should be clearly stated or we should have been given an itemized bill. Ended up inadvertantly paying like a 40% tip.Note: ordered lobster curry ($25), pork vermicelli (14.50) and one bubbletea ($6) and told we owe $57. Ended up paying $68 with additional tip.
The Satay Chicken Pho there is my favorite. The dish cannot be better. A spicy taste of satay sauce is dissolved into the richness of the soup. A must order for spicy lovers.
Don’t know if this has changed hands recently but it’s become a total disaster. Waited for 45 mins after the given pickup time for my order. Other people had been waiting for an hour. The restaurant was empty.Got home to find they had missed all the salad from the vermicelli and had given me the wrong starter. And what’s worse it wasn’t even edible
Really good food, portions are huge and the service is too good for words to expressI would definitely recommend this place
There are many decent Vietnamese restaurants in Calgary. I am well acquainted with most in the NW and downtown.Saigon Rex is my personal favourite. The food is always spot on, but what makes Rex my favourite is the calm quiet atmosphere.Unlike some Vietnamese restaurants, there is no loudness from the kitchen and service staff. The older waiter/host just quietly goes about making our dining experience perfect.Ample parking too.Highly recommended.
I'm a regular customer and used to eat at the Riverbend SE location. No that I live in the NW I frequent this location. Food is great, but I have a complaint about the portion size for take out. Today I ordered a Pho through Door Dash and I was very disappointed with the size. Very small considering the $16 charge. You really should consider investing in larger take out containers. If not the actual size of dine-in, it should at least be reasonable close. The take out size is definitely less that half the volume of din-in. That is too big a size difference! Decide to keep regular customers happy so they return, or disappoint them so the eat elsewhere.
Got the satay beef noodle soup. I didn't know it was peanut based and thought it was just chili based. It was still pretty good. The bowl was big and had lots of tender beef. Also I heard the lobster noodle soup here is popular. Need to try that next time.
The food at Saigon Rex is so darn good! We rarely eat out in restaurants but our family has been there 3 times in very close succession because we crave their Pho (this says a lot). I get the 14. Curry Soup and my husband loves the beef sate. Our kids are young and are not interested in the pho so we get them the chicken fried rice to share, the portions are good and the flavors are robust. The server remembered us which was a nice touch, you can tell they care if they remember you.
Had a disappointing experience here before but my cousin really wanted to try the lobster pho so decided to give it another go. The broth was good but the lobster was very overdone and the taste was off, one lobster tail was rubbery, the other was mushy and broke apart on contact. Would come back for regular pho perhaps.
Very good address! The service is impeccable and the food is flawless. We had the Bun Bo Hue and the Pho Dac Biet and both were delicious. If you are stopping by, come sit and enjoy!
